Paint Peeling on 2018 Corvette!!!
My new 2018 Corvette has a small area of paint peeling. The Service Manager said they would order the new nose cover and when it was in they would have me bring it in to make sure the new part matched before I left the car. Now they say that the part is in and they will paint it. I don't want a re-paint on a new car. They say that GM does not ship factory parts that are factory painted. Question is does GM ever ship pre-finished parts to the dealers? Thanks Very much.

Typically parts are not painted because variations in the batches of paint may not match. The local shop can blend it in so that no one notices.
Bummer about the car though, my sympathies. I guess the new paint shop maybe isn't all that quite yet?

You're better off having it painted locally than at the factory.

You've seen how the factory does it!

Let the dealer paint it, it's your best (and only realistic) option right now. This is a common defect, and they are trying to correct it, but it's going to take many months before all colors are painted in the new paint facility. After that, this defect should go away. Part of the issue is how the panels are held while being painted, and that will change with the new paint facility.

My 14 my cyber gray had a ding in the front nose piece when I went to pick it up off dealers show floor. They took it off and repainted and you couldn't tell the difference. I was very impressed that it matched. So it just takes someone that cares to match the paint. Let them paint it and if it isn't to your approval then proceed to 2nd step.

Yep. A good body shop will do a job you can't tell from factory. Getting one painted when the factory re-opens won't guarantee a match, as it likely will be coming from a different paint lot and perhaps the new paint shop. New cars are damaged and get minor repairs with some regularity, and if they do a good job no one ever notices

No customer cars have been painted in the new paint shop yet. The new paint shop will start being used when the plant re-opens on 11/1. However, the old paint shop will also be used as colors and production are gradually moved to the new paint shop.

I have seen some pretty amazing paint jobs done by dealer's body shops! Many years ago I traded a 94 Grand Am GT for a new 95 Trans Am, but my Grand Am had a few stone chips on the front end and hood. When I saw the car on the used car lot a week later, they had repainted the front end and you could barely notice it was not the original paint job. Perfect color match, very little dust in it and the same level of orange peel (not much) as the rest of the finish. Considering how long ago that was, I would imagine a lot of these body shops have gotten even better.

It's a roll of the dice either way. There's some dealer paint/body shops that do amazing work, and then there's others.......
Are you familiar with your dealers shop or seen any work they've done?

If it is not that bad just touch it up with a toothpick and some touch up paint. Better solution than a repaint and having to take off the whole front facia.

Getting paint matched would not be my fear with modern shops if they have paint spectrum technology. My fear would be orange peel matching. A good painter can lay close to the same peel or reduce it with wet sanding. Good Luck!
