Worlds Greatest Drag Race 7

Well not exactly a shocker. The GS is not a drag racing champ. Look who won, an all wheel drive electric Tesla; the 0-60 and 1/4 mile times are telling. This is not a metric to hang your hat on unless you like racing in a straight line.

Not that surprising. The GS was never designed for straight line dragstrips. Change the venue to a road course and the ranking would change dramatically. Even so, the Z06 would have have been the more appropriate model. It's not designed for dragstrips either, but would have made a better showing in a contest that is mostly decided by HP.
Ha... jivor beat me to it.

Go Canes!
The amazing thing is the Tesla. I am surprised on the ZL-1 and GS. I wonder how a Z06 would have done.

And that is the very reason I am going with a Z06. The underpowered Grand Sport is not my cup of tea, although a very nice all around car.

Indeed, not a surprise against those cars where it has a power disadvantage. It's a track animal for NA lovers (and oh how I love mine), not a dragster.
However, I do think an A8 and a better launch would have had it doing better against the Quadrifoglio at the very least. A PDK Cayman (and Porsche puts the power down perfectly on launch) vs. a manual GS is hardly fair.
Edit: By their own earlier testing, the GS auto would have beaten the Alfa Romeo and matched the 718 - http://www.motortrend.com/cars/chevr...t-test-review/

And the Winner for Ugliest and Least Sexy or Appealing In Anyway AWARD goes to.....Tesla! a easy win in this category folks, no way in hell that any of the other competitors could possibly compete with a 4 door skinny wheeled s h ! t box! Seriously, if you can make a 10.5 second animal on the strip, could you not make a 2 door appealing vehicle that maybe an auto enthusiast may like a wee bit more than this thing? Grans Sport is the best looking of all of them except of course the always sexy Ferrari.

It's fun to watch but do you realize how completely ridiculous it is and it proves absolutely nothing. Of course the Tesla will win in the quarter but 3 times in a row? Nope, needs to be recharged. I just wonder how in some future day and a hurricane like Irma calls for the whole state of Florida to evacuate when everyone drives an electric car the lines waiting to plug in. Let's hope there's another power alternative like Hydrogen.

There's a video (youtube?) of street drag racing where a Tesla was embarassing a lot of really quick cars. Smoking a new muscle car or a Lambo is one thing, but doing the same to a Mustang built for street drag racing (BB, stripped, supercharger, nitrous, etc) was awesome. EV characteristics make them idea for drag racing.

HPT :You're making excuses about a 4-door electric family car beating some of the best performance cars money can buy. Just let that sink in.

Unless you are going to the drag strip on a regular basis the GS is hardy underpowered. It's just out of its league in a streiaghtline competition. On the track the GS destroyed many of these same cars during the Mt test.

More power to Tesla. Pretty cool technology. It will be old school in a bit, but cutting edge stuff now and well done.
I used to drag race a lot. Campaigned SS and M/P. I didn't buy a C7 for drag racing. If I was buying a drag racer, I'd get a Demon. but then you have to do a bazillion things and stand on your head to get the times they did, but again, more power to Dodge for having the guts to do something like that!
The right model Tesla, fully charged, will almost certainly beat any stock C7 configuration to 60 and in the 1/4, including the Z (doesn't matter if this particular run was an 'under-powered' GS (really?), a Z would have had the same result only closer. Put a SP100 model in Ludicrous+ mode and let 'er rip). For a couple of runs.
But any stock C7 will smoke a Tesla for the type of driving that most of us purchased the C7 for in the first place.
Ain't it great to have the choices we have??!!

The fact that the ZL1 is superior to the Stingray and GS in every measurable performance test except for braking and lateral G's speaks volumes.
