That's a good sign when folks can't totally tell that the top comes off on all of them. I personally like the profile lines of the coupe better and the fact that the tops come off gives you a little of both worlds....

It is a better looking car as a coupe (and I have a '14 Vert.) BUT having come from a coupe, the top off in the coupe is not nearly as immersive/comfortable as a vert; with the targa roof off the air swirls around and has no where to go and kind of beats you up when you get above 45 or so, the full vert brings in all the light and there is a lot less being slapped around......
Not only does the roof remove, as it did in my C6, it has a place to store it in the rear!

C7 coupe with roof removed! It's carbon fiber and lighter than the C6! Easy off and stored in rear.
I waffled on this for a year before making a decision. It's definitely better looking as a coupe. I drove convertibles for 12 years and my opinion is that having the roof off is 50-60% as immersive as having the top down. Wind isn't an issue for me as the majority of my driving is not on freeways. The final deciding factor for me was not being able to track a convertible. If I didn't have intentions of tracking my car, I don't know what my final decision would have been.
I would agree with this about the buffeting not being nearly as bad as its made out to be by the vert guys. I take mine off way more than I thought I would. I've owned verts over the years and can't see going back ever based on how nice the targa is.

I'd never go back to a coupe for street use. What's the point?
I do like the rear quarter view of the coupe's lines, but from other angles, and in particular from the driver's chair (sound, view, fury) the convertible can't be beat. A targa gives you some of the open air feel, but not the top-down feel, nor the sound with the top down, nor even the quiet with the top up (better insulation in the 'vert). Just my two cents... buy the one -you- like.
On the track, you want a coupe, even though I've tracked this vert... not the hot ticket.
I had a '16 Stingray Convertible and now have an '18 Z06 Coupe. The Convertible does have a better open air driving experience, but I find the top off on the Coupe is very enjoyable too. i really don't notice this wind buffeting like many do. Maybe the partition I have makes a difference. Convertibles are $4000 more than Coupes in all models.
I don't foresee a future where you can't remove the top like you can on the C5, C6, and C7.
They even added it to the Z06 on the C7.
Technically you could remove the "top" in C3s. The T-tops were removable too. It's been around for a while. And I love it.
Soft tops are easily broken into, wear out, make it harder to keep the car warm/cool, and eventually leak. I have seen it on every daily driver I have ever been exposed too. So unless it is going to be a garage queen, I will always have hard tops.

I'd have included the C3 if I was sure the C4 had a removable top (did it? Either Targa or T-tops)

Sounds like you are not very familiar with C7 convertible tops.
I bought this partition from Exotic Corvette ( Crazy Cowboy) custom made for C7 Coupes. It partitions the interior from the trunk. It works well with the two piece cargo cover and the removable roof panel. I think it cuts down a little of the wind buffeting with the top off and helps the rear radio speakers sound. Pictured with top installed in trunk other with top on car.
