Default Excellent infotainment screen protection solution

With 14,000 miles on my 2016 Stingray I thought I was doing a good job of keeping the MyLink screen clean & scratch free. Followed all the advice of no liquids, cleaners, etc and used only a dry clean microfiber cloth (like for eyeglasses) to wipe smudges etc since new. Until...I was in my driveway with the top off and sun to my back with the car shut off.

On the blank screen, to my surprise were multiple fine scratches going horizontally straight across the screen in the direction I usually wipe when cleaning. Fine to be sure, but they were there and noticeable in the right light.

I ordered this to prevent it from getting any worse and to hide the light scratches that were there. They work. Very reasonable at $18.99 for a pack of three that includes a cloth, dust removal tape and plastic squeegee. They are about 1/32" short in both axis to the full screen, but were a snap to apply (got it right on the first try) and did not impact touch sensitivity or screen visibility at all. They did hide the existing scratches and should prevent any more form occurring. For those that may be looking, this is a great product. - Tech Armor Anti-Glare/Anti-Fingerprint Chevy MyLink 8-inch Screen Protectors [3-Pack]

That's great... now, just don't look at the screen so you see the scratches, never ever again!

I have these on both my Corvette and my Cadillac (same size screen.) I can attest that they do not hinder the touch screen at all. Seem to hold up. I've had them on at least six months each with no signs of wear--and one left over in case one does.

Default Screen protector

I was going to order these, but was apprehensive if it would hide the same type scratches, thanks for posting.

How does it attach and is it easy to remove?

You clean the screen then pull off a backing to the film and place it on the screen. IIRC there is a backing on both sides. A squeegee is to move any bubbles to the edge of the screen. It should peel right off as there is a tiny edge that could be grabbed with a fingernail. You really can't tell there's a film on there unless you get really close. It works the same as a screen protector for a cell phone except it will see much less wear.

I have had these on for 3 years and they are like new. Also do not show fingerprints like the bare screen does.

This is the reason I quit touching the screen with my fingers and bought a rubber-tipped stylus to do the touching, which I store below the dash just under the ignition switch with Velcro. My fingers left very noticeable greasy marks on the screen more than any other device I've had. There are also ways of navigating some tasks without touching at all, and that's the way I try to move around when possible. These screen protectors look like something to try.

Never been terribly concerned with needing a screen protector on a car screen strictly for the protection angle. Not like it gets carried around like a cell phone, and I don't even use them on my phones.

That said, I never considered the fingerprint reduction perspective. Does it really make that big a difference in that respect? The Vette is the first such system that I've had that I actually touch as much as I do, and the fingerprints are on the annoying side.

You won't believe the difference until you try one. I hardly ever have to wipe the screen off.
I don't know if the prints aren't there or they just don't show.

Sounds like a great product. May have to try it on my Impala’s touch screen.

I am not all that concerned with scratches. My phone screen does get heavily scratched, but as someone pointed out, it spends a great deal of its time in your packet and getting knocked around; with the screen would not. I am more concerned about fingerprint resistance, glare and accidents. Just like on phones, you put cases on them because you might drop them. But the screens have always helped with a resistance to finger prints. Which is a big motivator.

Here is a link from a thread started yesterday.

link link

I have these on the car and truck. They work great. The third one (from the original link) is on the fish finder in the boat.

My suggestion...don't bother.

I ultimately decided to try a couple different screen protectors on mine, specifically for the anti-fingerprint qualities. The first one I tried was the Tech Armor one discussed in this thread, which Amazon lists as no longer available. It has such a glossy finish, I couldn't see the screen for all the bright reflections I got if there was even a hint of daylight. All I could see was the bright reflection of my hand on the shifter. Took that one off and later tried the "Tuff Protect" screen protector. This one didn't have the reflection issues, but the anti-glare properties took away the clarity of the display such that it made the screen image look very dull, IMO. I yanked it off, too, and have gone without one since. The anti-fingerprint properties would be nice, but I decided I'd rather have a nice, usable, good-looking screen with some fingerprints on it.

.

I'm surprised that GM would recommend using dry anything to clean the screen. No matter how soft and clean the cloth is, it will drag any dust across the surface and case scratches, though they may be small.

On our C6's (44k and 102k miles), family Toyotas (45k and 75k miles), and now our C7 (22k miles), I always use the same technique and have never seen any scratches:
With the car shut down, I use Dustoff or my shop compressor at low pressure to blow off most of the dust. Don't tilt the Dustoff can, you'll get a blast of freezing liquid that could cause damage.

After blowing it off, I use a small amount of the GM Glass Cleaner (white foamy stuff in a spray can) puffed on carefully, then gently wiped off with a clean 100% cotton rag.

Works for me...
