Corvette Plant Update - October 2, 2017
Several have recently asked how the plant retooling is coming along. The following is accurate as of today (October 2, 2017)...
1) The "General Assembly" retooling is on schedule.
2) The first marriage of a body to a chassis took place today. (Not a saleable unit, but an assembly test car.)
3) A full quality analysis will be performed as the first cars are built with a very formal process taking place before any of the first cars are released for delivery. This is the same type process that is used when moving from one model year to the next (historically around a three week process).
Taking this information into consideration, the first new line assembled cars should arrive at dealerships early to mid December.

Thanks for the new information! I can't keep my mind off ordering a new C7. Plant being closed this Fall jilted my schedule of ordering one for mid-Nov. dealership delivery.

Thanks Jeremy, you always have the inside scoop with reliable info.
My Carbon 65 order from Rick Conti just moved to event code 3000 last Thursday, with a TPW of 12/11. Any idea on how many cars will be held for that additional 3 weeks of quality control measures?
I guess if it's going to be in the first couple hundred cars to come off the line with all the new processes implemented, I would much prefer to see the extra QC time and effort spent on it. I can't drive the car in the winter here in Ohio anyway so might as well let the factory take a closer look to iron out any bugs.
Do you think production week 12/11 is still going to be held or do you think they'll be confident in their processing at that point to just ship them on out?

Thanks for the update Jeremy! When does the first week of production begin again, is it Nov 20th? I still haven't received my TPW yet so I'm guessing mine won't be built until probably the week of December 18th at the earliest. What do you think the chances are that Torch Red cars will be painted in the new shop by then? I'm also guessing that by then there will no longer be a QC hold so it's possible I could get my car within a week of it being produced.

I gave a deposit September 23rd for a 2018 Grand Sport, however the dealer was unable to place the order into the system. My dealer said:
I understand but these are hit and miss with any dealer you go to with availability changing every week. Any allocations that are not pre sold are just going to be used up to order whatever they want. We are now keeping an eye out for you every week so that we get your order in as soon as possible. We get an updated allocation every Thursday. With available ordering taking place Thursday thru Saturday. Will check this Thursday for availability.
Any advice would be much appreciated?

New allocations are updated on Thursdays (although sometimes there are no new allocations given in a week).
I'm guessing your dealer is a relatively low Corvette volume dealer. How many Corvettes do they sell each month? If Corvette volume is low, it may be a long wait before they get an allocation.

Sounds like you are being strung along by a dealer who's just hoping an allocation magically appears. Like others mentioned, might be best to find a Forum dealer (or other higher-volume Vette dealer) who knows what they are doing AND have an allocation.

I gave my dealer until Thursday to get something done. Otherwise, I will look to another dealer to furfill my order and ask for my American Express $2,000 deposit.
