I hate the skip shift. Can I over ride it?

Normally no issue with the skip shift, makes you kinda forget about it until.... all of a sudden turning left from a green light (not an arrow) crossing traffic and OMG no second, so the car bogs in front of oncoming traffic. I just can't see where this can be called a gas saving device, have to rev it to get to second, or it bogs and the engine chugs in fourth. I hope Santa brings me the doohickie for Christmas, and one of the elves help me install it.

Other than it being an over-learned and ill-advised habit, there's no reason to be shifting while negotiating a turn. You should have both hands on the wheel in that situation anyway in case evasive action is necessary. In slow traffic, you should stay in 1st until completing the turn.

Yes Dear.... no shifting on turns, ya gotta wonder though how many folks have said "Oh Sh*t, and got clipped... hopefully it wasn't their last words on the plain of existence.

As in racing, complete all shifting and braking before you enter a turn...

He did great yesterday and today. I taught him in a huge parking lot and once he figured out the clutch, it was easy for him. He and I put at least a hundred miles on it over the weekend, just tooling around town. It was tough for him to keep it below the break in RPM's, lol.
You're right, reverse he got right away. The skip wasn't too much of an issue for him for the reason you stated (in the lot). Once we were on the road, he never shifted into second until he was going about 25 or so and yes he was slow to shift so it was moot.
I guess I drive like a grampa. I'm old enough to be...
Thanks!

Hmm, I live in a rural area with long, little used roads between farm fields. Hit redline in 3rd often! Never had Skip Shift happen in my C6 in 6 years as I had installed an “eliminator.” When I got my September 2013 C7 Z51, there were posted issues re Skip Shift (turns out some units used the wrong resistor.)
Before I bought and installed an "eliminator" got caught in bumper to bumper traffic. When shifting to 2nd I fumbled until I realized skip shift was occurring! Just lucky the person behind did not get a cell phone beep indicating a text message receipt, as my car slowed unexpectedly! They, like Pavlov’s Dogs, could have a conditioned response and been "compelled" to look at their phone! IMO, in addition to being a PIA if it occurs even once, skip shift could cause someone to hit your rear! Too many folks looking at cell phones while driving to see who sent a trivial message!
At 75, I don’t drive like an "old man" but I can make a similar "ASSUME" statement as yours! Have to wonder if folks who don’t imtsall a “skip shift eliminator,” even own a jack, tools or every get their hands dirty! For ~$11, the skip shift eliminator is easy to install! Watched a young lady on “All Girls Garage” TV install one in 2 minutes!
After having one installed on my C7 for 3 ½ years put one on my Grand Sport on day one while I was switching to ceramic brake pads. Easy to do as my driver’s side rear wheel was already safely lifted, jack stands etc!
To Each Their Own! Don’t really care if you add one but don’t assume why I (and others) do! As they say about the word assume, it makes an *** out of U and me!

It's the same!
There was confusion in October 2013 as there were CEL trips with some Eliminators for a C7. (Turned out they were defective!) I finally bought one after talking with the company that made them, it measured the same, 2.18 Kohm. That is in the plug going to the wire harness. You're paying for the two plugs (which are different in the C7 vs C6) and a resistor known to work and not burn out! Mine lasted 3 1/2 years in my 2014 C7 and was working fine when I sold the car. See they are being sold for $11! Can't beat that for a protected resistor with the correct 2 plugs!
Both it and the one I bought for the Grand Sport were one piece with two wires connecting the plugs. Makes it easier to use a wire tie to hold it close to the trans and avoid contact with the exhaust pipe.
The side that plugs into the solenoid read very low resistance. But that doesn't mean anything as the plug going to the solenoid is only being used to keep the connector on the transmission clean! Therefore the wires could be a dead short and the unpowered solenoid would not care! The plugs are NOT connected internally. That is why there was a 25 ohm measurement! The only resistance that matters is that connected to the cars harness.
Made a schematic to show what is happening:

I just check the resistance for one that looks like this, and says it is for a C7 and it is only 12.8 ohms...maybe the actual resistance is not critical as long as it is rated for enough wattage to keep it from failing. The 12 ohm resistors I found were 2 watts.

Melting Slicks
Removing a fuse to bypass the skip-shift only worked on the C6, it does not work for a C7. The C7 needs a skip-shift installed at the transmission. First mod I did to my C7......
