I’m not trying to put words in your mouth but are you saying this is an attempt to justify big discounts to correct stagnant sales?

If so, was GM in your opinion banking on better sales due to the Plant shut down?

In full disclosure, I’ve been in the market waiting for great incentives. I see things getting good for potential buyers!

Hold on!! I have figured it out... During the shutdown, GM has installed a time machine in the Bowling Green factory, and once all the kinks are worked out, such as exactly what weight of oil to use in the time machine, GM will soon be able to deliver Corvettes from ten years in the future or even more. This will revolutionize the car industry, along with just about everything else. Way Cool.

I really think it's nothing more than a cost-saving marketing plan. Introduce the ZR1 and any final changes to the existing models in the C7 platform in January 2018 and simply let the C7 generation run the course for two more years as a 2019 Corvette. That way they can focus on the C8 and/or mid-engine that they plan to introduce in 2020. Any fixes or improvements to the C7 will now be incorporated into the new production plant process and they can just focus on selling the C7 for the next two years until the C8 is ready in the spring of 2020.

From Corvette Action Center

http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/...s-in-november/

"So the big question on everyone’s mind is why is GM doing this?
We were able to confirm that there were some electrical components that needed to be changed over as well as a change to a new Mobil 1 oil as factory fill, and it was decided to initiate these changes early and conduct a model year break. Again, these changes are nothing that would be apparent to the customer. The new factory fill will be 0-40 oil available January 18th and is backwards compatible with older models."

Could care less about what oil comes in it, but what about these electrical components that those with 2018 orders will be missing out on?

2018 production numbers are gonna be really low. Not 1983 low, but almost.

Only if it's Black Rose Metallic as some people think colors that didn't sell well originally, suddenly become a collectable after being discontinued.

Since GM's car crazy CEO Mizz Mary just announced GM is going all-electric, all ICE Corvettes will be obsolete momentarily. I'd wait for the mid-engine "Batt" mobile to come out before ordering--you know you need a Lithium-Vette....

The early release for the 2019, equals new models underway. They also cut product way back this year for 2018, working 4 Days week in the plant.

I wondered if those electrical components were part of the car or part of the new assembly plant instead?

So far from June 5 '17-July 27-'17 there have been a total of 6469 2018 Corvettes built. If you add November, December and the better part of January '18 production.....less than 9700. (According to NCM Museum)

Forget 2017/18's sitting on the lots Autotrader still shows over 260 brand new 2016's still sitting on the lots!

No doubt though with winter fast approaching and thousands and thousands of 2017's still available I would expect some big incentives. Not gonna lie a 2017 Z06 in a manual is tempting if I could get the right resale value for my 16 Z51.

I just got my 2017 in July. I gonna enjoy it until my extended warranty runs out in 2024. In 2023 or early 2024 I will revisit purchasing my next Corvette. By then the dust will have settled down on the C8. I just hope the C8 generation will still have a model with front engine RWD and ICE.

I think the ZR1 will be shown at the auto show Jan 2018 and then orders for it can be placed after. For the November order sheet I think the line up will be identical to the 2018's with some option additions/changes, high wing spoilers, lane departure warning, different front splitters different wheels.

Now the waiting game.
