I don't think Zymurgy is saying "he" wouldn't plug it, I think he's stating that most reputable tire places would refuse to plug it that close to the sidewall

EDIT: replying to owc6, since several posts appeared at the same time

Yes, "not recommended" doesn't mean imminent catastrophe. Some people smoke for 50 years and never contract lung cancer. You might get away with a patch in a not recommended repair, but then again, you might not. It's a personal decision.

Right, like I said, some people smoke for 50 years without getting cancer. Like you, that's just one data point.

We might as well stop beating this to death. Every person has to make a personal decision about how they want to handle something that is "not recommended."

Heading home from Florida 2 years ago, I noticed a nail in my tire. The dealer said I had to replace the tire and they would not plug. Left for home and 1250 miles later I took it to my brothers shop and he plugged it for me. It did not lose any air on the trip home and it lasted for another year before I replaced it.

I had a nail in my rear tire last week it was losing close to 1 psi per day. I over inflated it a bit and drove it to the dealer. Should add I have complete trust in the dealer (Van Bortel Chevy).
They removed the nail, and patched the tire remounted and balanced it and all was good.

Yeah, run it flat to get you to someplace and then throw it away.

You're totally good, and can have complete confidence in that tire. It's as good as new, since it was never driven in a ZP condition.

So in the end I paid for a brand new tire and came back the next week and got the tire and rim warranty which I paid around 1200$ bucks for 5 years any nail in my run flat they give me a brand new tire which are around $300 a tire didn't wanna pay that every time I got a nail in it 👍🙏
That is a fantasy. It is a run flat tire. So what if it blows up while driving all you get is a hole in the tire where the patch was installed and you can keep driving on it with the hole in the tire. The Michelin run flats can be repaired. Shops that don't repair them are either worrying about liability or desiring more money. They have a right to be nervous if somebody shows up with a tire with no air pressure and swears they didn't drive over 50 miles at over 50 mph since it can be hard to tell if the tire was driven too long with zero pressure. However, if they know the tire hadn't been driven with zero pressure there is no reason not to repair it if the hole isn't too large or too near the sidewall.

I drove over 8000 miles on a plugged Goodyear F1 Eagle RF tire on my C6. I plugged it myself.
Never lost any air.
