Default Ticking sound on start up

Maybe i'm just paranoid but when the car is cold and I start it i hear a ticking sound(metal sound) in the engine bay. Lasts for maybe 5-10 seconds and goes away. Brand new 2018 GS. Is this normal? Thanks in advance

Take it in sound like a lifter going down on you and has to pump oil back into it then it stops. Warr work... Robert

As Robert stated have it looked at since it goes away in a short time. The camshaft driven high pressure fuel pump also makes a distinctive ticking sound but it doesn't go away after a few seconds.

That is the reason I said what I did if it is the lifter it will go bad & you will have problems with it. Warr work for sure & don't let them talk to you & said it is good. Robert

Are you able to determine approximate area the ticking is coming from?
I've encountered exhaust/manifold leaks that will sound like a 'ticking' but quiets
quickly after exhaust heats up.
May help if you record/video from your phone and post here.

Total guess, it may be the direct injection sound, I've seen comments that it quiets down after start up as well.

As I said total guess. Do a search for the direct injection on here.

It's the GDI, took mine into the dealer for the same sound, they laughed at me.

It is the GDI, it can be very loud sometimes and quiet at other times. It is a strange beast.
