2018 MY... will be the leanest year since 1959!
According to the NCM Museum (link below) Less than 9700 Corvettes will be produced for MY 2018. That makes it about equal to 1959 production of 9670 cars built.

Actually there are 1.5 1983 cars. Half of one is mounted against the wall of the NCM garage.

I had ordered the 2018 Carbon 65 edition partly because I liked it's uniqueness, I valued the idea it would be somewhat rare.
Now in an absolutely ironic twist of fate, thanks to this new production timeline, I find that I am all but guaranteed to receive the most duplicated/replicated car of the 2018 model year cycle.
On top of that, the ceramic matrix gray color has not been very well received. It was anticipated to be one of, if not the absolute lowest volume color for 2018.
Fast forward just a few short months and here we are in a situation where there is a very real possibility that ceramic matrix could be the most popular color for 2018.
Given that there are guaranteed to be 650 carbon 65's, plus whatever numbers the color was ordered in across the rest of the line up. When you divide by a paltry 9,600 projected cars produced in 2018, there is a very real chance that the "take rate" could be well into the 20%+ range for ceramic matrix.
Who woulda' thunk it
And just like that we did a complete 180°

How confusing is it to start making 2019 cars in JANUARY of 2018?! And with "No major changes are coming for 2019 as models, colors and options from 2018 will carry over..."
So why are they doing this?

If I were Chevy, I'd call them 18.5's. It'd be a win win. They get to keep saying 18, and call it a freshining. That could hold them over to a 19 with significant changes... owners happy, future buyers happy...

Guess there isn't much of a point to go to the NCM bash in April then, as that is usually when they say what the changes for the next MY will be.

You never know. If a large stockpile builds up, they could go to a much lower production rate. I also have to think that production on another GM vehicle will begin in the expanded plant before June of 2019, and it may not be a Corvette.
