The nail catch test is not always good as I took and wet sanded a whole side and it all came out. Better to try first. just tonight I thought I had one but it came off with Meguire's cleaner wax in the purple bottle it is pretty good. G/L

Just had the left rear quarter panel on my 2016 repaired. ~24inch key scratch thru the clear coat. The car is LBR so it has the three part paint which costs a little more. My cost was $800 which included taking the quarter panel off, repairing the scratch and respraying the entire panel. Turned out great - cannot tell it ever happened. It taken in on Monday AM and I picked up the car on Wednesday PM and drove 8 hours to Carlisle.

What’s the problem with the parents paying for it? They should be responsible for their kid.

Sucks about the damage to your car and hope the parents of the kid come through for you. I would bet they have a serious discussion with their kid too.

Anybody in Houston know where I should go for repair? I was told Maik haik off Kirkwood was good. Anybody know how much this would cost to be fixed?
Can’t buff when it’s to the black. They’ll fill then match paint. With metal flake blade silver it cost about 1400. Small inconvenience but when it looks new again, you’ll feel a lot better.

Happened to me last month...before & after...

That sucks.

Good thing it's whit though, I had a deep scratch on my driver's door, a buddy scratched it out while backing out an F150 but it did get it repaired to the point where you can't even see it without having to repaint the whole door, just a blend.

It can be done but find a GOOD bodyshop.

Good luck.

Would y'all recommend just a body shop or should I take it to the dealer? I am also getting warranty work done as I have some pin head sized rust spots on my paint in different areas that I'm asking the dealer to remove.

Where are you getting rust spots on an SMC panel and aluminum car?

I would always go to a high-end body shop over a dealer's body shop any day.

Body shop...all the dealer will do is farm it out to whomever they use.

Possibly rail dust, or something similar, just throwing a guess out there.

Start with 3M Imperial Hand Glaze to see how it looks. Very safe. If that doesn't work get a respray.

That's what I thought. It's scattered and very small. All on horizontal surfaces, roof, hood, etc.

You forgot one thing, a small 4oz. Glass filled...... with Jack Daniels.

I concur--although I do know a low end body shop guy in South Dallas (where I'm from) that might do paint work for a couple hundred bucks but you probably don't want that on a Corvette. Just saying.
