Poll: Change oil or don't change oil before storage car?
This topic has been covered in other threads but I never saw a majority opinion one way or the other. So my question is, do you change your oil before putting your car into storage for winter?
Reason for the question is, I last changed my oil on 6/2/2017 and the current oil life meter is at 61%. The car will likely spend the next 5 months in storage so I am on the fence whether I should change the oil before putting it into storage or wait until it comes out of storage.

With 61% left why would you even remotely think about changing it? Do you like wasting your money?

Sorry for the the incorrect grammar in the titles as I did not notice spell check changing the word "storing" to "storage" until after I posted. Ugh...

“Irregardless” isn’t a word either.

Regardless, of whether, whatever, it's or just weather , it's better to change the oil before winter, IMO.

On topic, I didn’t vote because I don’t store my car even though I live in CO. If I did I wouldn’t change the oil with over 60% showing on the OLM.

Save your money. Just park it as is. No need to break your neck in changing it next Spring either. Oil isn't that temperamental.

This topic appears almost weekly this time of year. Curious, are you going to go with the majority, or just do what you wanted to “irregardless” of the votes.
BTW, my iPad recognizes the word

I change the oil in my C6 Z06 once a year, "irregardless" of the mileage.
Change it once in the fall before you store it, then that once a year requirement will always be in the fall, just before you store it for the winter.

Paul Koerner gives seminars at the NCM bash every year. I asked him this exact question and he said change the oil before storage.

Correct. The oil life monitor will drop 42% in 5 months of sitting. You will come out of storage showing 58% oil life left without having driven a mile.

5 months of sitting in a non-temp controlled garage creates lots of mosture. If you change in Nov, then change it again pre driving season. To me, that's a lot of wasted Mobil 1, so I change it before the car comes out of storage. But if changing it before and after is what people prefer, as a XOM shareholder, I say do it, and thank you!
