Have You Had a Wheel Bend?
We received an answer from Tadge on this issue (https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...s-bending.html), but he says their "field data" does not show a problem with wheels bending, so I thought I'd take a poll here. The question really relates to wheels bending where you didn't expect any damage from an impact (or were unaware of any impact). If you hit a foot high curb at 50 mph and your wheels bent, don't answer "yes".

I hit a bad pothole that bent a wheel and destroyed the tire. Insurance covered both, plus an alignment.

Not on the vette but I hit a pretty bad pothole on my 650ix BMW that put a bubble on the sidewall of the tire. When I replaced the tire and had the assembly on the wheel balancer you could see a slight wobble on the inside rim of the wheel. Funny thing was that that wheel had the best "road force" balance numbers of all of the wheels. I'm running with it as is and don't feel or see any issues with it.

Have you had a wheel bend on your C7 without physical damage to tire or rim
Five bent wheels within the first 2700 miles. Currently have 6700 miles on my C7Z. All were bent on public streets. The first four were all bent at the same time from a pothole that was kind of hidden in the shadows and I tried to straddle at about 35 mph, it didn't work. The fifth was a very minor bump coming off a freeway bridge at 55 mph. Couldn't feel any vibration until 45+ mph with any of these.

That is quite possible. Right now I have a slow leak and I think I have a vibration that is a from a bent rim. So it will be interesting if I’m leaking around the bead. I have looked at the rest of the tire and I have not been able to detect the source of the leak but I will check around the rim today. I would have thought a bend would have to be very bad to cause a leak but maybe not. Anyway good idea and worth checking out.

Jedi-Jurist,
Based on the purpose of this poll, I suggest you modify your post #1 statement to add "OEM Wheels Only".
IMHO, Aftermarket wheels should not be included in this poll.

I have several been to rims, probably seven,I’ll have to count all of them. They are all in the rear and none of them were from hitting anything that is worse than any other expansion joint or imperfection in the road. I’m very careful not to hit potholes. The roads I travel on are actually in very good shape. I have about 43,000 miles on my car now and the only bent rims that I have gotten have been with run flats. Half of the miles I have are with winter tires, the non-runflat Soto zeros, and I haven’t bent any rims with those. I only noticed a vibration above 80 miles an hour and it gets worse from there. It’s unlike a balance issue that seems to get better once you get above a certain speed. I have two brand new rear rims just waiting for the next time I bend a rim.
15k on my 2014, 29k on my 2015, Daily drivers ETC
Lot of miles! Never ever heard of one guy bending up to seven wheels! What air pressure are you running? Your roads or driving must be some kind of bad. The wheels just do not bend like that easy.
Some wrong here!

While not scientific, it's interesting that the Z51 has the most "no" responses, and fewest "yes" to the bent wheel question. Just looking at the wheel's design, it appears to be the most study of all the OEM choices.

Bent wheels
My 2014 coupe hit a surprise pothole (it wasn't there the day before). No problem until I had the all-season tires put on, and they told me both right wheels were bent.
I have no vibration or other issue, so I'll keep them as they are.
When I had my 2006 coupe I found a section of missing pavement on the highway. I replaced the right front, and kept the bent right rear.
Yes, they will certainly bend! (I have in my crawl space a bent 944 wheel, too.)

5 bent rims in 2 years
Upon takibg dekivery of my 2015 Z06, I noticed a slight vibration in the steeeing wheel/seat. The dealer diagnosed the problem as a power steering issue, indicated GM was aware of the issue and might update the power steering software.
Fast forward several months, I return to the same dealership regarding the vibration issue which had gotten progressively worse. At that time, The dealership informed me that all four rims were bent. I’ve since heard that driving in Sport mode could result in bent wheels.
a few weeks ago, a pothole took out my left front tire and bent another wheel. I rarely drive the Z in anything other than Touring mode. I consider the factory wheels to be unduly susceptible to bending from normal driving. They are not worthy of inclusion in a Corvette Z06. Last weekend, I ordered a new set of Strasse forged wheels.
UPDATE: I ended up buying a set of Forgeline CF wheels and replaced the run flats with Pirelli PZero non run flats. The ride and handling over moderately rough roads is noticeably better than ever.

I've driven on the 18/19 for about 3 months with no bends. Now with 21/22 for a year and still no bends.
More and more cars these days are coming with low profile tires. No way around bent wheels. Just gotta be more careful.
