Terrible with cameras - any hints on how to take glamour shots would be appreciated - photoshop guru but not the initial shots - thanks

Find an interesting background. Mountains or sea shores are always nice. Don't live near either, then try some industrial setting, like an old factory made of brick. Try to shoot during the "golden hours" - shortly before sunset or slightly after sunrise. Try experimenting with a flash to provide some fill light.

Well, if you don't have your Nikon, do you have another DLSR? If you don't have a good camera, there's really not much you can do with settings and attempting do so something like HDR is probably out of the question. However, with even a simple point and shoot, good Photoshop skills can do wonders.

I paid a guy last weekend. It takes a skill I don't think I have.

I certainly hope he provided better shots than that. The street lamp pole, "telephone" pole and the background in general really detract from the photo. Sorry, just my $0.02 worth.

Not sure if you have a drone, or know anyone who does. Assuming it is a nice one that does 4k, this is what you can expect. You can get angles that you cannot get with a DSLR

The ability to run real fast like without shaking the camera?

Nice enough "action" shot, but it needs a train or something in the background.

Like others have said. It's all in the background you pick.
You need a background that makes the color of your car pop.

Looks like a slow exposure with "light painting" as a fill light.

Basically you would use a light to highlight the car, and nothing else, possibly playing it over the car.

I believe Hot Rod or one of the car mags did an article on it a few years back.

Roadkill used that for the cover with all the previous Roadkill project vehicles, then they shopped it together.

I'm no expert, but that's what it looks like to me.

Edit: well cr@p, I see GoldRose85 beat me to it.

Me and my slow thumbs.

Heck, no worries OP. Locating a Glamour Shots near you is as easy as locating a brick and mortar shopping mall that’s still standing. Go inside, you’ll find one guaranteed.

Seriously though, bridges in the background work well, depending on angles and time of day, and empty parking structures on weekends seem to provide a great combination of light, both natural and bright fixtures inside. I have a friend with a great eye for it, and my wife is also pretty good at picking backgrounds. I leave my photography needs to them. Personally, I wouldn’t know a good location if it kicked me in the head.

Best shots from what I've found, are getting down low with the camera, sit on your butt or kneel down. Makes all the difference in the world
As said best light is early morn or evening time, cloudy days, pay attention to background

Best advice for non-pro is to move in close and take full advantage of various lighting options! All the best.
