Leather shrinking on 3LT dash

Leather shrinking on 3LT dash
Our 2014 Stingray is 10 months out of warranty and the leather around the defroster has come loose and lifted out of the vent. Dealer says new dash is 1800 just for part (whole dash), without installation. Took it to a interior repair shop and they said its not repairable cause there's not enough material.
Has anyone else had this happen? Is it just 3LT?
I expect this from a 15-20 year old car but not 3 1/2 years.

Have them step up the case at the dealer. I agree. Not at 3.5yrs. That's pathetic

If you just talked to the service manager, then ask to speak to the owner of the dealership. Perhaps that route may result in a good will repair. If not, bump it up using the channels recommended in your owner’s manual.
I agree that at 3.5 years the leather coming loose should not be happening.

Thanks guys. It didn't go far at the dealers (service manager) but we didn't buy it there we got it from Kerbecks. At that time most Chevy dealers couldn't sell the C7 if they didn't sell so many a year. I don't remember how long that went on. We ordered it new (SN 4310)
Ill try Reds idea..

I'm thinking that a good shop can fix your problem, though the repair might be slightly visible. Perhaps explain that although you'd like "perfect", you understand that "pretty good" may be the best available.
or
The dash on our 2017 2LT looks pretty good, you might be able to get a salvage one and have it installed.

Sorry to see that and I agree that it’s pathetic for a 3.5 yr old car.
That said, it doesn’t matter where you bought it, GM should stand behind it; that dealer gave you the easy answer of “No.”
Elevate and document everything.
Good luck.

Just googled and found this pic from Summit. Could use adhesive in the gap.
Just a thought.

A good plan B. No way I'd pay $1800 to replace it.

Anyone have a e-mail for customer service. I'd like to give them a message before I move up the chain.
I know it's out of warranty but this is not the type of problem that I would have bought an extended warranty for. Car only has 29000 miles on it.
Max that's for the part only!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GM is not going to pay this out of warranty--part of the deal. When mine happens again, I'll be talking with car trim/upholstery shops to see if they can remove and re-glue. Should be cheaper than buying a new dash plus labor for install from the dealer. Or just throw a dash pad on it.

So far, our 2017 has about 6k miles/6 months, no quality issues.
But we had a 2001 (66k miles), 2006 (44k miles), and a 2009 (102k miles).
Each of them had more problems in the first year than any of our four Toyotas had in the first 50k miles. And it didn't get any better as the miles built up. These weren't problems from the high performance nature of the car, they were basic (but expensive) things similar to your dash, electronics that failed, leaks, etc.
We bought the GM extended warranty on each of them and "made money" on the warranty because it covered so many repairs.
It took a real leap of faith for me to buy the C7.

LBS,
I hope you'll get some help with the problem. Even a 50/50 deal will be better than what you have now.
IMHO, you need to have this corrected. If not, you'll take a heavy $$ beating when it comes time to trade. If it were me, I would at least buy the part and have it on hand to replace when I could no longer tolerate the look of the original. But $1800 just for the part is a bitter pill -- I certainly get that.
Most manufacturers say 'sure, we'll stand behind our stuff for 3 years/36,000 miles, but after that, you're on your own, sucka.'
All the best to you -- keep up informed.
