Changed my tranny fluid-Wow!
I have 43k on my C7 and decided to change the tranny fluid. The old oil was dirty but not overly filthy. However, changing over to Redline D4 which is a synthetic oil was amazing. I'm floored on how much better my car shifts. In cold weather shifting the lower gears was slightly notchy. That is all gone now. I'm left with a buttery smooth gearbox. I would suggest this maintenance to anyone who wants to improve the feel of their gear box. I would have done it long ago if I had known. The dealer will not put in an aftermarket oil so I went to a transmission shop with oil in hand and was charged 50.00 which is very fair.

Just sharing some answers I found to questions I had...
Redline D4 is an ATF. "Our most versatile ATF, use where Dexron III®, Dexron II®, Mercon® and Mercon V® fluids are recommended, for use in automatic, manual transmissions and power steering ".
2015 Owners Manual: Use Transmission Fluid (GM Part No. 88861800, in Canada 88861801)...
Poking around a bit, it seems that 88861800 is simply Dexron III...
Sooooo the Redline D4 should be in spec. I know when I changed to a Redline product in my MR2, the transmission shifted WAY better than it had before.

Here's a DIY write-up I did, which includes some info on the Redline D4 ATF: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...d-service.html
Here's a spec sheet from TREMEC on our M7 transmission: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...tr-6070-a.html

The 1LE Trans (6 speed Tremac) loved the Redline D4 Fluid, also the rear diff loved the redline.. You should have seen the black/grey goop that came out of the diff after 1500 miles, there were so many metal shaving it was crazy...
I have not done my Stingray yet, I am hoping it is in much better shape..

just based on observation of others in the Corvette club, some went to synthetic and then went back to the stock GM fluid...so I would recommend just staying with the factory blend.

I'm on my 2nd change of Redline D4 and it's noticeably improved from factory shift quality, even back when new.

I don’t have any skin in this game other than back when I had a “crunchy†‘14 M7 I was investigating my options. I ran across this on the Tremic site in the process for what its worth. I ended up changing with factory fluid and nada.
Q: Why not use a synthetic fluid?
A: Some brands of synthetic fluid contain powerful detergents and additives that can prove harmful to your transmission's synchronizers. While many synthetic fluids perform very well, in most cases, we do not recommend their use. Furthermore, they may void your warranty. For peace of mind, remember that TREMEC conducts all of its OEM validation testing using conventional fluids without issue.

Lots of experience with TREMEC TR6060 and now TR6070 since last fall. I've read TREMEC's comments and have talked to several of their reps over the years. I'd love to just use their recommended stuff, but the full synthetic just takes these transmissions to another level. The TR6060 in my 1LE is an amazing trans, with a factory shifter that feels like a surgical tool. Even that great combo was greatly improved by the full synthetic. I'm sure my Z51's TR6070 is an amazing trans, but it's hard to deny that the shifter is a letdown, not worthy of a vette at least, who knows, probably leftover shifters from the Cobalt. But shitty shifter aside, I'm changing fluid in the spring before I bring it out of storage, and I can't seem to talk myself out of full synthetic for it, definitely can't see myself putting the OEM fluid back in

I just changed the fluid in my 2016 Z, M7,( car has 17Kmiles) the change did help & I use the GM factory fluid. The reason being if there was any issues while under warranty, the non factory fluid would not be a issue.

Why did some members in your Corvette Club say the went back to conventional fluid?

Can it float around in there without doing damage? Probably. Do I feel better getting all that metal gunk out of there? Absolutely.
So, I'd change it out.
HTH, and have a good one,

Where on the Tremec website did you find this? Please provide a link.
Does anyone know what degree of detergents and additives compared to conventional fluid Redline D4 has??

I wonder if there is some connection with the TSB which changes the A8 to synthetic. Just thinking!!!!

They were trying to solve shifting problems, and the factory fluid gave the best results... also this goes back to the C5s, and there was some concern that long term the synthetic fluid could adversely affect internal components, which has been mentioned.

The A8's are problematic enough without giving GM an excuse to void your tranny warranty. I have a GM extended warranty and if my A8 takes a crap, the bill is going to be on GM and not me. We have a member in our corvette club whose C-6 engine blew up and GM engineers spent two days going over his car trying to put the bill on him. They they were unable to do this and GM eventually paid 24K for a new engine.
