Torque converter troubles
My 2016 Z51 lt1 has 7500 miles on it . Over the last month the T C has started acting up ! Yesterday we drove it approximately 100 miles and while on I 20 it started drooping RPM’s and felt like it was skipping . After exiting the expressway it started the shuddering, it felt as if we were running over stop sign warning strips , called my chevy dealer and will take it in Dec. 4 . Service writer said they would change fluid first in trans and see it that fixed the problem . If it still exist they would replace the torque converter . He stated that the fluid change had worked about half the time. My question is with this problem known why hasn’t chevy had a recall on these problems? I love my vette and this is the only problem I have ever had .

They haven't done a recall because for GM it's economics. Cheaper to cover those that fail then replacing every TC out there.

Bingo! Also, it's not a safety issue, and recalls only happen if something is unsafe. I don't think a torque converter problem like this would qualify as a safety issue.

My brother in law has a 2014 7 speed manual and it has never been in the shop for anything but oil changes ! Guess I guessed wrong with the auto . Kind of reminds me of quality control back in the eighties .

According to a POLL on this forum the majority of TC problems occurred on the 2015's and 2016's. OP, welcome to the club. I had my TC replaced on my 2015 at 10K miles and the transmission has been flawless. I now have 32K miles. Good luck!!!!!

The TC on my '16 was also replaced at 10K miles. I have 16K now and no problems, so far but I am now using a Range most of the time to avoid V4 mode. Good luck with your repair. Picking the right dealer to perform the work is critical IMHO.

Do I have the right to ask for a new torque converter instead of just flushing it out ? Should I call zone and ask for help on this . Advise please !

Plus, I would rather the flush work if it were mine. That way the car won't need to be torn apart. IMHO

Just curious.....With all these T.C. issues, when they get replaced, is it with the same type of unit or a redesigned one? If they are just a replacement unit of essentially the same design, seems like that's a set up for another potential problem. Has GM ever discovered what the problem is, or modified anything in the newer T.C's?
