Default Is there anyway to make the cig lighter plug in front stay on with car off?

I am baffled on the way the cig lighter plug in the front only works with car or acces on. But the plug in the trunk stays on no matter what. Is there an easy way to keep the plug in the front on so I can charge my phone when I am out of the car doing something? Kindof inconvenient to charge in the trunk.

thanks in advance

Unless you're willing to rewire it, no.

The one in the trunk is always hot because it's used for the battery tender.

Stick it in the trunk. I wouldn't leave my phone in plain sight anyway. Windows have been broken for less.

I guess I am saying that I thought you meant that you plug the battery tender in the adaptor and then you hook the positive and negative leads to the actual battery to charge it. No?

No. you plug the tender into the adapter which itself hooks to the battery. The other end of the tender is an AC plug you plug into an outlet. Electricity goes from AC power through battery tender, which converts it into DC power and regulates it if needed, then sends it into the trunk outlet and into the battery.

No, you can't use the battery to charge the battery.

Hmm, that would be creating energy, perpetual motion!

GM has worked hard so the battery does not drain because folks leave devices on-like MAP lights that I did in my '88 Vette several times! Easy to do as when you opened the door they went on for a short time then off. However if you had the lights turned on manually and forgot, when you left the car thinking they would go off-they didn't!

The C7 shuts off all lights etc after 5 to 10 minutes. That is why you can leave the hatch open if you'd like to charge the batter with an AC to DC charger and not worry about hatch lights, like all others they will shut off automatically.

They left the one receptacle in the rear to stay "hot" so it could be used to charge the battery. If you want to use it for whatever reason and the current draw is low, all will be fine. If it's high it could drain the battery!

It's charging the battery from an open lead in to do so. The front lead in doesn't permit charging when car is off. Exactly like my 2006 Mercedes-Benz' lead ins. Unless the car or ACC is on, it's a no-go to battery tending or charging either car. The front lead in on the Corvette, doesn't permit charging. Only the rear one.

It was a new/interesting for me to learn of this battery tending through your lead in (cigarette lighter) orifice business several years ago. I'm going to buy at least one more CTEK3300s, for my RV, to easily tend the battery through the cigarette lighter on the dashboard.

FWIW: I leave my cell phone charging in the trunk of my vert while in the health club. It's out of sight, and unlikely to get stolen (hopefully) that way.

Then, why wouldn't you ask you to make that one hot all the time?

I skimmed it...but I would have read it if I knew there was going to be a test.
