Default Am I a moron or a blockhead?

I am going to be buying a new Z06 or ZR1 soon. I don't like the looks of splitters, or side skirts. I don't mind the spoiler so much as I will order a stage 2. Can I have the car delivered to me without the side skirts, or the splitter installed? I think you can with the Z06, but maybe not with the ZR1. I know most buyers like the side skirts and splitter, but not me. I'll get the over cap guards they sell for the rear side vents and Xpel the other vulnerable areas. I do drag race, so maybe I will have to have the splitter and side skirts installed. Thanks and please don't be too hard on me. You can be a tough crowd sometimes!

I'm totally with you Joe. It was my understanding that they are shipped without skirts or splitters attached. I dislike the look as well.

What if you buy a Z51 and have a blower and high-lift cam installed? (Plus the supporting bolt-ons and tuning) You can get comparable power and a cleaner look. Plus, a Z51 with a blower will have the "sleeper" factor.

These items are intended to be functional, not cosmetic, so I would suggest doing a little exploration of the effects of leaving them off before doing so.

Only above 120 mph. For street use, not so much, other than rock chip avoidance w/ regard to the skirts. PPF is a much more aesthetically pleasing solution if you hate the skirt look.

Z51s routinely see speeds much higher than that on the track and come w/ no splitter or skirts.

I like the stage 1 splitter and z51 size spoiler so I added them to my Stingray, but I do not like the side skirts. Some people add side skirts just to protect rocker panels, but I would just leave them off if I did not need them to be functional.

Take a look at what GM does to produce the power upgrades on the motors for the uprated engines. You can add a blower ect.. to the base engine but you're going to radically reduce engine life unless you redo the internals. That will end up costing more than just buying a Z06.

Joe, after a year of posting Z06 pulling the trigger theeads just do it...life is too short and the Z is awesome. I love the stage 3 looks but easy to remove or not have installed.

Probably not a good idea as you will not only void warranty but shorten engine life as well; not a good combination.

I don't like them either. Running boards were okay on my '30 Model A, but...

That's funny. I restored a 1930 model A with my friend in high school. It was his actually. His dad pulled it out an old field in a property he bought. And the side skirts have always reminded me of running boards.

Joe, I'm with you - no front splitter or side skirts. I would however, opt for the big bad Wicker Bill rear spoiler. Kinda goes with the ZO6, IMO.

Then again, you probably will go over 120 in the quarter--maybe they'll come in handy as aero-assist?

They provide down force, I assume in a 1/4mi that would not help.

Hmm, where I live would not drive any C7 without side skirts. "Form Follows Function" so they look great to me!! They stop pebbles from marking the rocker panels. Particularly on a Grand Sport, Z06! Even when driving slowly over an area I pass every day I heard many pebbles leave the front tires and hit the "underside" of the skirts for 3 1/2 years with my 2014 Z51 where I added aftermarket side skirts.. Same with the Grand Sport now and not one mark on my rocker panels or the rear brake duct! Even the standard 3/4 side skirts are not enough, if you read posts, to stop marking of the rear fender brake duct opening. I don't have one scratch!

I added ACS front splash guards to my Grand Sport in addition to the Stage 2 aero option that includes full length side skirts. In fact I would agree that the poverty splitter and 3/4 side skirts that are standard on the Grand Sport and Z06 don't look great.

BUT, that said to answer your question, my Stage 2 aero side skirts and splitter were delivered to my Courtesy Delivery dealer's parts department prior to the car's arrival. In was in the shop service bay and watched the C7 Tech drill the 13 holes per side and install the side skirts with rivets. Take to the dealer.

Your car your envinronment but be prepared to have the rocker panels marked with pebbles AND the brake duct opening on the rear fenders marked quickly!

If you don't like the side skirts can't see how you can the spats, if you get a Z06! I added Stage 3 winglets, which IMO along with the wider ACS front splash guards help integrate the look.

2014 C7, Z51 with Visible CF roof, to Which I added CF Side Skirts, CF Splitter, CF Hood Vent and Real CF Cover over Grill Bar.
The LG MotorSports side skirts stopped all marks on my September 2013 built Z51. I was able to remove the GM plastic and when I sold it this year not a mark on the rocker panels or tops/side of side skirts. Every day I pass and area where I hear pebbles hit the bottom of the side skirts. Often on our rural roads I hear them as well. Car was not covered with any type of plastic or special coating -just Zaino. Buyer of my car thought the carbon fiber additions looked great and it helped get my the high sale price!

There are "Running Boards!" Kids love to stand on them at car shows to look inside! All is fine as long as they are also not eating ice cream! They are steel reproductions with bonded rubber cover like those used in '34!

Don't stand on side skirts, even carbon fiber with 13 riviets per side, like those on my Grand Sport!
