Default Closing Hatch with Battery Tender Cable?

I am in the process of finishing up my Corvette's winterizarion. I hooked up the battery tender, but I am not sure if the hatch will close completely with the cable running out. I'm sure I could force it closed, but would rather try a better option. The battery is in the "trunk" which makes it more of a challenge. The car is in a garage, but I would like to be able to lock the car. Thanks!

The way I do it. No damage to the cord.

And there was no issue with the hatch? I figured it would close but wasn't sure if it would warp/damage it

No problem or issues with the hatch just close it and forget about it.

I simply run mine out the passenger window, but I have no need of raising it when using the tender.

Perhaps my OCD getting the better of me but was thinking more about the hatch gasket getting "dented" or damaged.

Not sure if I am overly cautious but gently lowered the hatch (trunk in my rag-top's case) but not completely shut.

If I'm being overly cautious, please advise!

I've stored mine with cord out the hatch for two years now with no damage. My car is plugged in year round.

Same here. Btw, for those concerned that it will pinch or damage the cord, there’s not enough pressure on it to cause a problem. I can easily reposition mine a bit (i.e. slide it around) with the hatch fully closed.

I put the CTEK in the trunk and plug in the extension cord there, use a shop rag to protect the rear spoiler and run the extension out through the slightly open hatch. Light times out in about 10 minutes. With several types of traps around the garage, and a Tupperware full of moth ***** under the front and rear, no rodent problems for last 10 years.

I have mine attached to the wall as well, but if/when I get a cover, I will have to move it to the ground. It's a bummer, because I really like the location. I also leave the hatch slightly cracked open.

Hey, Squeaky Wheel, I'm agreeing with you agreeing with me!

Seriously, you nailed it. You can move the cord quite a bit. That not only means no damage to the cord, but also no damage to the weather stripping. Not enough pressure.

I still like to leave mine open on my car, that's OK with you, right?

Kevin, are you asking for my advice, or questioning my response to Squeaky Wheel? If you are asking for my advice, no you don't need to leave it up. If you are questioning my advice, still... No you don't need to leave it open.

Cheers, and Happy Holidays!

Yes, you're being overly cautious, one definition of which is someone who worries about soft rubber getting dented.

Yea, figured as much. Too many years riding boats will make you question the little things...
