Do you ever tire of "Are you going through your middle age crisis or what?"

I've never had anyone say that to me. At 61, I'd kind of expect it, but the only comments I get are what a nice car it is.
For me, it's more of a "Glad the damn kids are finally all out of the house" than a mid-life crisis.

Isn't funny how excited we all were when we had children and then again how excited we were when they left.

Been going through mid-life crisis since I was 25 and bought my 1977 Corvette...Never had anything but Corvettes and Camaros...
I don't remember the "excited when we had them" part of children.
I am proud of them now, but I guess I skipped the excited part.

When I bought my C4 some 17 years ago I got several mid-life crisis comments. Like many of you it wasn't a crisis situation but a long awaited opportunity after raising kids.
Since I bought my C7 the comments are mostly positive and I usually reply with a smile saying the car has been a thrill to own. Even the less than friendly comments get a friendly reply. Nothing to gain by being an Ahole and it doesn't represent the brand favorably either. No need to add bad publicity.
To the mid-life crisis comment I'd likely reply (with a huge grin) "Oh, its not a crisis at all. On the contrary, just look at that car! Who wouldn't want to take that baby out on the open road and see what she'll do? Yeah, and since I'm retired I can do that any time I want to."
I'd probably let it go there but if you want to add a little dig look around like there's no other cars on the planet and ask "What are you driving?"

My favorite responses have always been from cops. I've never seen anything like that, and I've owned tons of different types of cars.
I get so many cops coming up to me, laughing, asking how fast I've gotten it, asking about the LT1, one guy thought it was a Z06 and was asking about the powerband, etc. It's the most unexpected thing. Cops really REALLY love this thing, lol. I never thought a Corvette would get positive attention from police. I've also been let go 4-5 times when getting pulled over, a few times for very high speeds. Had one cop come over and watch while I was burning donuts in a parking lot. Just sat there and watched. I waved at him, he came over and said he just wanted to make sure nobody wandered in while I was having fun.
I spend a lot of time in Chinatown in Seattle and have had TONS of Japanese tourists take pictures with the car. They seem to really love it. I asked and one group said they didn't have Corvettes in Japan and they have a cult following out there. You can find me parked outside of Mae Kawa and Fort St George on the regular, and you'll see the Japanese tourists and kids from the area pooling around it a lot. It's pretty funny. Have met some cool Japanese motorheads in the area.
Have also had 7-11 cashiers, people walking by, older people, you name it, had a ton of them come up and ask to have their pictures taken with it, sit inside of it, whatever. I'm always very inviting, let them sit in it, take their pics, etc. I've got an album on my Facebook account, lol.

All C7s have an LT1, or greater engine. It's the basic-entry level engine. Cops love cars as much as anyone.

I just tell them it's a gift from my angel. My wife of 21 years, passed away after a courageous and dignified 10 year battle with cancer. She was able to remain in our home thanks to Hospice Care giving us the opportunity to discuss in detail what her desires were for the future for her and me. One day she surprised me by saying “I know how much you like hot cars, so I want you to take my IRA and buy yourself a Corvette”. She knew I had two Corvette (1970 & 1974) before we married and that I had always maintained the Corvette itch. I finally did buy a Corvette and she now rides with me in spirit every mile. I am 75.

God bless your wife, what a wonderful woman you had. I am sorry for your loss. I believe that heaven has window-seats, so she can see you and your Corvette. And yes, she's in the passenger seat, smiling over at you. Have a great Christmas.

Oh it never fails somebody that hasn't ever seen your C7 before see it and say those dreaded words. First, I don't like being reminded that I am middle age and second it has nothing to do with the car. I have always loved cars, motorcycles and boats my whole life. I love speed, acceleration and the ability to totally jam through turns fast(my favorite). Sure I like the looks of the c7 but I really bought it for what it does first and the looks second.
Why do people think people like us only like the car to show that we are still young, hip and vibrant? Does a car make you look younger? I don't see how you are what you are. No, we buy then because we appreciate hot cars and the power and handling of the car and it makes us "feel" younger.
So I thought it might be interesting for us to post witty comeback for when people hit us with that question of middle age crisis or middle age crazy.
I'll start, "oh that's not my car I borrowed it from my 80 year old mother and she is going through her late life crisis my other car is piece of **** Prius like yours. ."

When asked the Mid-Life Crisis question I simply say " Yes this is my 4th one! I had so much fun with the other 3 that I had to do it again!"
I then get a knowing smile and understanding as to why at 73 I still drive a fast sports car...

Don't feel bad about it. I am 34 years of age and I have a 2017 GS with a wife and 1 baby. I catch comments every now and again. I hear things like isnt that a retirement car or you should sell it since you have a baby now. First off I make enough money to cover my nut WITH OUT my wife needing to work and 2nd its none of their business and like you said and much agree it has nothing to do with the car. Like yourself I always loved cars, I love acceleration and like you I like going on those back road twistiest and really jamming out it. So yea... I am on the other end of the age spectrum and I still catch lame comments. Shrug it off and keep putting those miles on! Miles = smiles.

A Corvette at 50+ isn't a midlife crisis, its a reward for a life well lived...
Now, a Corvette at 50+ with a 25 year old "girlfriend"? THAT is a midlife crisis!!

So many people are complete morons and I just don't bother to care what they think. I am in a much better position to know what I should be driving than anyone else and I would just tell them exactly that. Or maybe **** Off if I was in a bad mood.
I buy my cars for ME and not for anyone else, so anyone who objects can go to hell if they don't like it.

I'm surprised no one has brought up the other statement that is often made:
"He must be compensating for something"
I have finally come up with a good comeback for that one and I promise myself I will use if I every get the chance.
"I really don't know how mine compares I have not seen others. You seem like the kind of women who has seen more than enough of them to be a good judge, perhaps you would like to take a look"

Never Ever
First, my wife and I went through middle age crisis so long ago we don't recall when it was. Second, its occurence means you are very successful. At staying alive. A good thing eh?
