Did you do your own oil change at 500 miles?
Reading other threads on 500 mile oil change there were complaints on dealer service or screwups.
I even did a local google search to pick a dealership and the dealer reviews have the same type comments with select poor service.
Perhaps good service goes unnoticed as most who do reviews are more negative.
I'm at the point where the oil needs to be changed.
Doing oil changes yourself, you know its right and not risk dealer damage. But, doing it yourself there is no record on file with chevy.
Curious how many of you did your own oil changes despite the free 3 oil changes offered by chevy.

I had the first oil change done by the dealer. It was a $46 upcharge for Mobil 1 oil. I can do it my self for less. I also know how much of what oil is going into my car. I bet the dealer doesn't fill the filter with oil before installation either.

It's not rocket science. Let a dealer do it for free. There shouldn't be any upcharge for the recommended oil either. If you can't find one to do your oil then you'll have a real problem if a warranty issue come up. It's just a car and has a warranty.

Keep receipts you will have no problems with warranty. I have a friend with a drive up lift makes changing oil a breeze. Plus I know its done right. If its not rock science why do so many dealers keep F__king up. Over fill , wrong oil etc. They can keep their free oil change.

I had the dealer do mine. Fortunately, I was able to watch the entire event and saw them put in Mobile1.

It is a simple oil change and I let the dealer do it. Of course I make sure before I buy a car the service department meets all the expectations we all have for maintaining a Corvette.
That means I may sacrifice a few dollars by not purchasing out of state but to me it is more than worth it when service is a non issue.

The 2014-2015 Chevrolet Complete Care Program for Corvettes was designed to take into account Mobil1 is the oil of choice for many Corvette owners.
As a reminder, dealers are required to use Mobil 1 when performing oil changes on ALL 2014-2016 Corvettes through the Chevrolet Complete Care Program.
Current reimbursement levels for Corvette are based on Mobil 1 usage. Please remind all personnel that only Mobil 1 should be used.
In addition, please refer to Global Connect message # G_0000205212 (U.S.) for details on dry sump equipped (Z51, Z52, and Z06) Corvettes.
The non-Z51 Stingrays also receive Mobil1 with the Dexos spec while under the Chevrolet Complete Care program.
12/12/2017 2014 - 2018 Corvette: Service Bulletin: #PIP5290E: Oil Change information For 2014 - 2018 Chevrolet Corvette
The only difference is non-Z51 Stingrays do not receive the 500 mile break-in oil change
Many dealers make this mistake, or maybe they do it on purpose, who knows.

I am ALWAYS (well almost always ) changing the oil on all my vehicles, but this time I took it to the dealer as I wanted to have the 500 miles oil change documented. VERY IMPORTANT if you'll ever sell the car. Before I bought mine, I was looking at used Z51 and only about 20% were showing the 500 mile oil change done in the Carfax record and that deterred me form looking at those cars.

Just have them do it, it's FREE. Just before you leave the lot or sign paperwork, tell them you want to check the oil fill level. It's pretty simple, you should know the proper process. If it checks out fine, sign away, if it doesn't, have them fix it.

This is what I would be looking for on a Carfax or GMVIS report

I didn't ask and they put in Mobil 1 just like they are supposed to. My car didn't fall off of the lift, it wasn't damaged, it wasn't over-filled and I couldn't find anything to complain about.

Changed the oil in all 5 Vetts including the 500 mile change in my Grand Sport!
I know it was done right and Mobil has $12 rebate/5 quart jugs (two jugs allowed.) The 5-30 says, “meets dexos” spec on the 5 quart jugs I buy from Walmart. Walmart was $22/jug with $12 rebate - $10/jug. I use ~9 1/4 quarts as I keep it half way in the crosshatched area. Total oil <$20! Plus I added magnetic drain plugs!
Mobil no longer requires a copy of the receipts, you do it all on the net, no stamp! I keep the original receipts in an envelope. Actually for the first time I did register my oil change on the GM website! It’s not a dealer record but shows date, mileage and me as changing. Not sure that does anything but sold my other 5 Vettes on my own and always gave the Owner’s Manual to the buyer. It has all maintanence hand written in the maintanence section.
Don’t recall anyone ever asking! Recall selling my ‘88 to a collector from the Mid West who insisted on seeing the engine numbers. He said I might not even know if GM found a problem on the assembly line and swapped engines!
The engineer who flew in 1000 miles and drove my C6 Z51 home, never asked. In fact his girlfriend, who came with him, asked a lot of questions until she saw my Street Rod! All questions about possible problems ended. It looked like it was well taken care of!

I had them done at the dealer but not at 500 miles. I bought my 14 when they said not to change at 500 miles but to wait til 5 or 7k can't remember. Then the factory said to do it at 500 miles.

< Damaged rocker panels from not using jack pads
< Overfilled, evidenced by oil dripping from the air filter
< For several weeks an oil smell (of interest the cabin air filter is right behind the dry sump tank, with a flimsy plastic cover). Here is what can happen:
If the mechcanics helper fills the dry sump tank like they do for 99.5% of the wet sump cars they service, it will overflow. There are baffles so even I put a large rag around the opening and pour slowly. Their easy way to do the job is to pump oil from the 55 gallon drums of Oh-So-Peachy brand “oil blend” the manager bought for the lowest price. That is find for that 99.5% as all it requires is an oil blend Meeting GM dexos spec for which they pay GM a tribute! There are over 50 brands listed, some who’s names I never heard of. If the oil overfills the dry sump tank the mechcanics can clean the top and front but not so easy to get behind and clean the back next to th cabin air filte.
Really can’t blame the mechanics helper doing oil changes, the lowest paid service job. The option is go to the parts department and sign out for 10 quarts of Mobil 1 and lug them back to the work station! Those that have a C7 Tech change oil using Mobil 1 with no hassle exist but appears to be the exception.
Yep, for me a Free not worth the risk!

I got 5 free oil changes with my 2015. I had them do three changes as even though I used the car a fair amount I only needed one oil change per year.
Most dealers have been working with dry sump Corvettes for 8 years now so don't have an issue with draining and refilling the oil. I have had two different dealers changing the oil in my dry sump Corvettes since 2009 without an issue. The first dealer was a small upstate dealership that hadn't sold a Corvette in 9 years but was the best place in the area to get service done. My 08Z was the first dry sump car they saw and they did the oil change without a hiccup. The second one is a high volume dealer in NC and they have been changing the oil in my Vettes since 2014 with no issues.
In reality even though the job is simple you have a better chance of screwing it up yourself than they do. I do change the oil myself during track season when it comes to putting in 15W50 as the dealership doesn't carry that oil and it is more cost effective for me to make that change (The 10.5 quart track fill means I pay ~ $70 for 11 quarts at Walmart).
However, I have the dealer do one oil change per year (or as the DIC indicates) just to make sure there is a record in case something happens in the future. Then there will be no issue of proving I did the changes, it is right in GM's records.
