Oil Change Opinions
Ok, my 14 C7 Premier Edition has been sitting up in my storage lift for at least 30 days without being started. I’m planning on changing the oil tomorrow and while I know the oil should be hot when it’s changed so all the oil runs out etc., I’m thinking that since it’s been sitting so long it may be a better idea to change it cold since any run down of oil has already happened and any sediment is sitting at the bottom of the pan. If I start it more oil would probably be in the engine than there is there now and sediment will be spread around the engine as well. Am I crazy on this one? I’m in no rush to let it drain so that’s not as issue. Thoughts and opinions are appreciated.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I would tend toward taking advantage of the situation as having all the oil at the bottom, and draining cold. Hopefully, cold, isn't too cold??

I used to make sure the oil was up to operating temperature before I changed the oil (old school, like changing oil every 3000 miles), but I got tired of burning my fingers on the drain plug, so now I just go ahead and drain the oil with the engine cool...
As long as the oil flows out well, I think most of the dirty oil will flush out. And as you mentioned, by letting it set, you probably get more of the old oil out just because it has had longer to work its way to the pan.
In the olden days, we used to use straight 30 wt oil too, non of this 5W30 stuff...
