Default Optimum shift RPM on the M7?

Some what new to the M7 after driving Muncies for a long time. I typically shift my M7 at about 4k on regular street driving where I feel I am getting good performance and sound going into the next gear? What RPM do some of the more experienced M7 owners shift during regular street use and semi spirited driving

Depends on how hard I'm driving. Easy = 3500. Harder = 4500-5000

Owning a '16 M7 Z, if I wait till to 4k to shift to 2nd while in town, I'd be doing nearly 60mph-Busted!

Cruising - shift so that the next gear doesn’t bog the car, probably around 3k or so

spirited driving - before redline.

I slowly take the car to redline before every upshift.

I paid for those RPMs, I'm gonna use 'em.

One of my first fun cars was an '86 911. I did the same thing. Nothing like the sound of motor winding up. Even if it's not WOT.

3000 rpms seems to be the sweet spot for me when normal driving around town.

1st = 6 Grand
2nd = 6 Grand
3rd = 4 Grand then let off, start smashing the brakes for the next light.

Interesting thread! For me, it depends what driving mode the car is in:

For "Touring" mode: 2000-2500 RPM

For "Sport" mode: 3000-4000 RPM

I find that the temptation to speed is greater when I have my car in "Sport" mode. The louder exhaust is a siren song.

Sure you do!
mph when shifting out of X at 6500
1st 50 mph
2nd 72 mph
3rd 105 mph
4th 150 mph
5th 210 mph (drag limited @ ~180 mph)
6th 260 mph (drag limited @ ~180 mph)
7th 310 mpg (drag limited @ ~180 mph)

Owner's Manual for Best MPG (2017 Manual pp 194 PDF)
All recommended speeds about 1000 rpm!
1st to 4th at 17 mph (Skip shift prevents 2nd and 3rd)
4th to 5th at 25 mph
5th to 6th at 40 mph
6th to 7th at 45 mph

Where I shift: Never at GM best mpg 1000 rpm! But depends where I am and what I'm doing. I don't think about rpm! Typically 2000 to 3000 rpm depending on which gear when just cruising. Usually go thru 4th. May go from 3rd to 5th. For Interstate on on-ramp 4th to 60/65 (~3000 rpm) directly to 7th. May go from 3rd to 7th shifting at ~4000 rpm for fun.

Often on 3/4 mile long road near my home, between two farm fields when no other cars (also often) redline in 2nd and 3rd!

FWIW, max torque occurs at around 4K, and HP between 4-5K. I shift according to traffic and other driving conditions, but don't see much point to running things up to redline on the street.
