Default Thoughts on Upgrading Steering Wheel

Looking at upgrading my C7 Z06 steering wheel and wanted to get thoughts from folks who have upgraded. Looks like a lot of people are doing the leather on the sides with carbon fiber on top/lower section.

I was thinking of doing leather on the sides and top with just carbon fiber on the bottom. It seems like the carbon fiber on the top would be slippery and might be issue having two materials.

Has anyone that’s upgraded with carbon fiber on the top wished they had done leather due to the feel or being slippery? Thinking that having the same material would be a better driving experience, especially if driving aggressively but love to hear thoughts/opinions.

Are the upgraded steering wheels a little thicker as well over the factory? I had a SRT and liked the thicker steering wheel over the thinner Z06 factory wheel.

One of the first things I replaced when I got my Corvette. I went with flat top and bottom design. Always thought the factory wheel was rather cheezy considering the car.

I didn't have the carbon fiber dash so I saw no need to have carbon fiber on my steering wheel. I like my wheel because it has a flat bottom and top and is also thicker than the OEM wheel. The grey matches my grey interior.

In regard to the material at the top of the wheel and affect on driving, I frequently drive my Dad's CTS Coupe, which has woodgrain across the top. (Pic below for reference) It has a smooth glossy finish similar to how carbon fiber would be on a Vette wheel. Driving his, I honestly don't see or feel much of a difference or find it to be slippery, even on occasions when driving with one hand at the top of the wheel. If you like the look, I wouldn't view the difference in material "feel" as being a big issue.

When from top photo to bottom photo, not a Z06 but Z51. Wheel is much thicker at grips than stock and goes better with 3LT interior. I have the carbon fibre bottom ordered to match dash / shift counsel.

For me, one of the big considerations was cost. You can get the D OEM steering wheels for a few hundred bucks. The fancy aftermarket ones with the CF and other such features can go for way over a $1k. Yes, they are work of beauty - wish I had the dough for one.

Hmm, glad they did not decide that they wanted to emulate a Top Fuel Dragster and put in a butterfly steering wheel!

A flat bottom is useless enough!

OK for a Dragster but they only turn 90 degrees! No need to be a poser!

Looks Like GM Execs didn't listen!

I'd simply label it a "change," and not an "upgrade." But why bother with what others think; do as YOU want!

I found the best and cheapest way to upgrade.
Remember the Suicide *****, outlawed by most states decades ago for all but the Handicapped.
go to www.FOURING.com and find some great *****, some that match many interiors for $ 14-24 bucks,
OK, they are made in Korea, and the box has NO English written on it, it is a Street racer and Vett owner thing to have.
I got the Black silicon with red trim on a stainless shaft, 1 screw and your installed. No harming the OEM wheel,
it even comes with 2 diff. thickness silicone pads for diff. thickness wheels.
I would have a pix but car is under 4" of snow.

the factory flat bottomed wheel is still light years ahead of the Cobalt wheel they used in the C6
