Rejected because of Vette...

We've had USAA auto insurance for over 30 yrs now.
But once every 5 yrs or so, still go out to shop & compare other insurers for our family of 4, with 4 cars.
Just got a letter back from The Hartford:
"Thank you for taking the time to consider the AARP Auto Insurance Program from the The Hartford for your insurance needs.
For the Program to maintain competitive prices and to offer quality protection, we've established eligibility requirements.
Regretfully, we are unable to provide you with coverage at this time. We came to the decision because certain vehicles, like your 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 2LT Z51, are either more susceptible to damage or are more expensive to repair than others.
It is important to us that you find the right coverage and rates. Please consider contacting another carrier for your insurance needs.
Sincerely,
Susan L. Castaneda
Assistant Vice President
The Hartford
AARP Auto Insurance Program"
I appreciate their honesty about rejecting us because we have a Vette in the household. But did their actuaries actually looked at how much it costs to repair our BMW & Mercedes? & maybe my other cars are much more susceptible to damage from being driven by my wife & kids...?

Can you insure a 1993 ZR-1 in Bahrain? It's restricted to liability only on cars more than 10 years old here so my Corvette stays parked in the garage. Would love to be able to drive it some while I'm here, it sat in the garage for 2 years in Spain for the same reason. People in the US really don't know how good we have it.

They only insure households that drive Camrys
Seriously, they did you a favor by turning you down. If they’re this difficult when you are trying to *give* them money, imagine how difficult they would be if, heaven forbid, you ever needed to make a claim on your Corvette

They didn't insure motorcycles or Corvettes and many other cars and people with anything but a perfectly clean driving record, because they considered them to be too high of a risk policy.
And as a result, if you could get insurance from them, they were the least expensive policy you could buy. I know, I went through it.

When I was about to buy our first (modern) Corvette 17 years ago, I asked our State Farm agent how much the insurance cost would increase compared to our then-current Camaro. He said the only extra charge would be related to the higher cost of the vehicle, because SF had very low claims ratios with 'vettes. He was correct.

Just got $203 year end premium return (not guaranteed) from USAA last month. Not sure it makes much sense to post our insurance premiums we pay due to the many, many variables involved with our personal situations. Also think service and support is just as important as cost.

It's a shame, really.

I've had no problem in Kentucky with coverage for the C7 (or the previous C6, C5, or C4). My problem is for my '67.
I've restored it and drive it daily when the weather is nice. Contacting four insurance companies, three would only cover it as a low-mileage show car (6,000 to 10,000 miles a year, car shows and parades). Other than that, the replacement value would be by their book, maybe a few thousand bucks. It took a lot of comparing, but I went with Farm Bureau, and it's now insured for $40,000, that value being from an appraisal.

Something like that one should be looking at a agreed value policy. Not really what you would need for a C7.

One point of clarification:. An insurance company would value a car at time of loss on what they (you) could reasonably purchase a similar car for (condition, miles, options..). So a '67 in the condition you indicate is a lot more than "a few thousand bucks" and they would be required to compensate you adequately for the loss

Of course Erie is limited to these states, great company for car insurance, been with them for decades, and they don't care how many vette's you have.
Pennsylvania, Maryland, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia.

We were with the Hartford through AARP on our C6 for years. Then about two years ago for reasons unknown, no claims, our rates shot up, so now we are with Country, formerly Country Companies. Very pleased with our new rates, customer service and coverage. And no, I don't work for Country for those wondering.

I am a former Army Reserve officer and have been with USAA for almost 30 years now. I have found that their rates are unbeatable and their service is EXCELLENT. My daily driver recently got hit (while parked at my job) by a semi and they have been wonderful about getting me a rental car and "subrograting" the other party's insurance company.
My full coverage on my 2017 Stingray and a 2015 Nissan Atlima runs about $1200 per year. Nobody else could even come close -- and USAA has a proven record of standing up for their members/customers. Never had an issue with them at all.
Everyone's situation is different, but I would recommend them to anyone eligible.

The auto insurance is a microcosm of our overall society. I remember when I was younger, I could expect my annual premiums to decrease with a clean driving record and the annual depreciation factor. No more as my rates for all the vehicles in my family have increased despite no tickets, claims or other marks against us. Now more than ever, there is a collective mentality where the large insurance companies cornering the market are trying to get closer to a flat rate for everyone so they can spread the cost, and risk, to all drivers, good and bad.
In Florida, we have no-fault insurance and we also have to pay additional insurance to protect against uninsured motorists. Seriously, isn't that why we have insurance?!

Way back when they came out, I bought a three year old '81 Turbo Trans Am. In Oklahoma City it cost me $250/6 months for full coverage. When we moved to Fairfax, VA, just outside D.C. the next year, my rate jumped to $4,495 a year. I had to sell it.
In 2003, I bought a Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle. My current insurance company for my cruiser style bike, wouldn't insure it. I called Allstate, who quoted me $9,995 a year for coverage, which happened to be the price I paid for it. Another company wanted $4,995 a year. The 3rd company was State Farm, who quoted me $325/6 mo.
It pays to call around.

AARP? Are you for real? One of the largest socialist groups today. The one that lobbied for Obama Care (AARP is supposed to protect the over 50 group right?) and those idiot seniors can't afford or are crying about the cost of their health insurance (good for them).
If I were you I’d stick with USAA.

This is an adult forum. Cjunkie just left a quickie post with a simple truth regarding AARP. If you can't stand it, leave your boring irrelevant temper tantrum at home please.
Nobody wants to hear a malcontent rant. Trust me.
