Default Rejected because of Vette...

We've had USAA auto insurance for over 30 yrs now.
But once every 5 yrs or so, still go out to shop & compare other insurers for our family of 4, with 4 cars.

Just got a letter back from The Hartford:

"Thank you for taking the time to consider the AARP Auto Insurance Program from the The Hartford for your insurance needs.
For the Program to maintain competitive prices and to offer quality protection, we've established eligibility requirements.
Regretfully, we are unable to provide you with coverage at this time. We came to the decision because certain vehicles, like your 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 2LT Z51, are either more susceptible to damage or are more expensive to repair than others.
It is important to us that you find the right coverage and rates. Please consider contacting another carrier for your insurance needs.
Sincerely,
Susan L. Castaneda
Assistant Vice President
The Hartford
AARP Auto Insurance Program"

I appreciate their honesty about rejecting us because we have a Vette in the household. But did their actuaries actually looked at how much it costs to repair our BMW & Mercedes? & maybe my other cars are much more susceptible to damage from being driven by my wife & kids...?

If you went with the corvette museum you would have the best coverage possible at a great rate. Hagerty was not bad but was also more than the museum.

I have been with Geico for 15 claim free years, and pleased with their rates, but when I bought my 'Vette, I pinged other insurers for quotes, USAA among them. USAA provided me a quote, albeit not under the AARP umbrella... Looks like AARP is the fly in your insurance ointment...
BTW, with Geico I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to add the 'vette to my '11 Mustang GT policy for $45 a month...

Buddy, sorry to hear that about your insurance. Give Adam Boca a call at the National Corvette Museum. Tell him I sent you. He'll take great care of you.

1st Red Flag: "AARP"

They only insure households that drive Camrys

Seriously, they did you a favor by turning you down. If they’re this difficult when you are trying to *give* them money, imagine how difficult they would be if, heaven forbid, you ever needed to make a claim on your Corvette

If you would have went to an Independent Insurance Agent and spoke with them, A good agent would have known and told you that Hartford ( or maybe other companies out there) reject or surcharge for Corvettes. Sometimes buying over the internet isn't quite as good as consulting a local agent.

Amica Last 12 years. Two major claims. Volvo S60 which saved my life and a 45th Anv. Camaro my wife crashed. - Check them out...
500.00 per year full coverage in NC on the C7 Vette. My C6 was 490.00.
I am not nearly as old as you and average 30K miles per year on my car.

I asked why? Median age of a Corvette owner is 65. They are rarely crashed and most are secure in a garage. My G35 cost more to insure than my C6.

Honestly, I wouldn't want to be with a company that doesn't want my car, at any price---low or high. And if it were me, I'd like more companies to say they don't want certain cars or people and that negative things will happen if I insure with them---like a delay in payment for a claim, upping rates, etc. Matter of fact, insurance is sometimes more like dealers than a fixed, predictable item of purchase. I'd like it to be a little more transparent.

Some of the companies mentioned above may be your next insurer.

they are not available to everyone - you need to have a garage to keep the car in - if not - in insurance

I'm just curious but have you really verified that they not also rejecting owners of other expensive cars like BMW's and Mercedes?

It seems pretty clear to me, they cannot offer your a discounted insurance plan on a car that's way more expensive should an accident occur.

I've been insuring my Vettes and my house with The Hartford through AARP for 10 years now and no other company has been able to beat their rates so far. Service has always been good, too.

We started with two 2002 C5's and our other cars and now have a Mini Cooper, an Audi Q5, a 2002 C5 and my 2014 M7 2LT Z51 C7 insured through them along with our household. Never an issue.
