Unmodded cars sell for more than modded cars.

^^^ This....

You're better off trying to sell a modded car individually instead of trading it in at a dealership.

As mentioned, most buyers don’t want modified cars. There is certainly nothing wrong with personalizing a car, but any modified parts should be easily removed... and OEM parts reinstall for resale. The removed items will be worth more if sold separately.

Worth every penny if you enjoy doing it and it makes you happy in the process.

I’ve always done something like a basic tune like on my BMW or maybe a minor cosmetic mod. Nothing most people would know or notice. However I did a whole bunch of things to my Mustang and at the end of it, I could have almost gotten a GT500. I had to sell to a fellow enthusiast who could see the quality of the work and know it was done right vs trading in and taking a hit because it was heavily modified. I never keep my cars forever, so for me it was a slightly costly lesson learned. I won’t do that again.

Any mod I add (very few if any), I save the original parts.

That's my plan. Anybody who expects to get top dollar value as a trade in to a dealer ( and also get a good deal on the new car) is in for a shock.

I can back out all of my carbon fiber mods and sell the cf parts then or sell my OEM take offs now and hope to get a private sale or brokered sale buyer who wants to pay for them (less likely but not totally unlikely) .

I'll leave the brake mods on since they make the car look like it has the z51 option package... That and the fact I had to core exchange the calipers :-)

Your painting with way too broad of a brush. Some mods can be great and add power and performance. Appearance mods are in the eye of the beholder do dads al over the car may look good to you but not to others. Don't expect any return on mods.
Every Corvette I have owned needed some mods. Choose your mods wisely!

Just part of the deal!

Absolutely worth every dollar I have spent. I have moded every car I have had since my first car. Some cars have been minor things while others have been major. I have never traded a car in at a dealer, but rather have sold to fellow enthusiasts. In my experience I have generally made back 80% of my mod investments.

100% correct.
You mod to increase performance or appearance to YOUR taste.
Whats not worth it?

Mods are only considered "not worth it" by others who can't afford what they think you've spent, or who wouldn't do what you did!

Financially a terrible decision. Puts a smile on my face every time I drive it and you only live once is what's it's all about for me.

On the flip side personally I like buying moded cars. It usually saves me money in the end because the mods were virtually free.

I don't mod not because of the money but because I don't need more power and would like to keep my warranty. only "mod" I am doing is adding side skirts and splash guards in order to protect the sides. But I can definitely understand the opposite point of view.

I don't mod I drive it all the time and my goal is to flip it on a regular basis. If mine were a keeper I could see modding but not to change cars every year or so.

I approach mods with the mindset the ROI is my own enjoyment of the rig. Anything above that is just gravy.

As long as you don't expect to get your money back, you're GTG.

Personal preference.

I try to keep it to "keep it simple, keep it stupid"
3 mods, A&A supercharger with 4.0 pulley, long tube headers and a MGW shifter.

My reasoning. My 14 Z51 has supercar stopping, supercar handling, and supercar looks. What it did not have was supercar power... well now is does.

Manager man had a nice add on that I myself had not heard of and am now thinking of. The Curb Alert he installed makes sense on people having anything older than a C7 without the front camera
