Why do you drive an automatic?

I have an A8; all previous sports cars were manuals. While I like the A8 and it has its benefits, primarily when you go WOT, it's hard to beat the A8. Secondarily, my wife can't drive a stick, etc.
But, I do miss the involvement of a manual. When not going WOT, the auto is kind of boring, even with the paddles.

I don't. Just personal preference, for my wife's sedan and my pickup, automatic all the way, but for a sports car "toy", gotta have the manual. I drove a couple ZO6's with automatic before I ordered mine, and I'll admit I did like the auto, but I liked the stick better. I figured if I'm dropping $100k on a car I have to love it, not just like it, and I love the 7M.

Have had 5 knee surgeries on left knee , the sixth surgery was total knee replacement. Even with that I still have some pain and Don’t need the extra pressure from a clutch. In Oct of 2014 I drove my friends new 2015 Z51 M7 from NJ to Florida with him. ( I didn’t let him drive much) It was okay until we got into bumper to bumper traffic in Baltimore while I was driving. After that I only used the clutch for stopping and reverse. Save the knee

This is not intended to start an Auto/Manual trashing thread.
Around 75% of corvettes are autos and if you’ve been following the C8 threads, it’s widely speculated that the ME will be produced as a DCT-only model so the C7 may be the last generation where we have a choice in transmission types. What drove your choice and why?

Because 90% of my driving is done in gridlock.

I've had many manual transmission vehicles throughout my life and with this car (2018 Grand Sport special ordered), and for no other reason, I simply wanted to the ability to focus on enjoying (vs shifting) my driving experience and absorbing the experience without the distraction of shifting. It has paddles, so if I want to play around with gears I can still do that. But that's why I ordered my car with the auto transmission. Certainly not why most want the auto but that was my personal reason(s).

In my past Vettes, I was a manual purist. And if truth be told, I still am. I love working the clutch and stick.
But with my newest C7, I looked at it much more pragmatically. Traffic has gotten so much worse since my last Vette 15 years ago. I'm much older now...and I want to keep this car for a number of years. Do I want to keep playing the clutch over and over and over again?
And the technology in the car is so much more advanced...and distracting. With the A8 and paddle, it won out in the end.

My DD is manual as I've always been a manual guy, especially for sports cars.
Just thought I would try a A8 and if I wasn't happy with the C7 (my first) an auto is much easier to sell, however I'm very happy with it.

Have had m7 in past vette but went with a8. For future possible joint issues. But I really like the way the auto goes through the gears. Put the pedal down and fly!

My last two cars were manuals and I put over 510,000 miles on them total. I knew I would be driving the Vette across country on road trips in all kinds of traffic and did NOT want to do it in a manual. I am glad I did!

Carbon Fiber. That's my reason. When I bought my C7 in 2014 there were two in the state of Oregon that fit my choices of black/black vert with 3LT and performance exhaust. One was M7, the other A6. The transmission choice was a toss up for me - I wanted them both. But the M7 car had the CF all over the inside and I do not care for the look of it at all.
Sometimes I wish I had a clutch, and sometimes I am very glad I don't. It is still about 50/50. That being said, if I did decide to get a new Corvette it will likely be a manual simply for a change and not because I feel the need to be one with my Chevy.
I drove a friend's M7 after I got my A6 and was impressed with how effortless the clutch pedal felt and how seamlessly the shifter worked. In all but the worst traffic I do not think it would bother me. Still, no regrets other than I wish I had saved more money in my youth so I could have one of each.

My 1st Corvette an 07 I bought an auto with the thinking that the wife if needed due to a Coors light or what ever too many would be able to drive the beast safely back home. Never happened because she discovered that I became such a freak about anything happening to this car I would flip out. So she decided that would never happen with her behind the wheel therefore she only drove it maybe once or twice in the 9 years I owned it. Forward to ordering a new 16 C7 I had to have an M7. Wow this is the only way to drive this car. Paddle shifters cannot compare to the manual rowing through the gears. Never will look back or regret getting the M7. Confession this is not my daily driver

Same as most here, I like the fun of a manual, my c4 is a manual, I actually had purchased an HHR for a delivery car and it was a manual, I often wish all vehicles were manuals, we would have fewer traffic jams because self centered gotta be one more car, can't merge till the last minute ****** would get tired of pushing the clutch everyday.. Wife has a mini that's a manual that she bought as a city car, or airport lot car, instead of always miling up and fueling up her Armada, and it's like a go kart to drive, but she rarely takes it anymore,
I also plan on traveling w my car and also got it so my 68 year old dad could take it, and while he grew up on manual stangs and vettes mobility is main issue. Also the performance of new autos is pretty damn good, if i was doing a track only car it would be a manual for sure, but the light wieght vette and snappy auto is quicker 0-60 and that helps if a hellcat pulls up next to you at a light w 250 more HP but light to light your gonna probably take it..
Dealer I used had a black on black GS M7 and a black on black Z51 A8, he had both priced at 20% off since it was December, and I really wanted the wider rear tires, and could just see myself on the track rowing to win, but after really thinking about it I took the Z51 A8, reality is I'm going go to the track 1-3 times a year, but even though its not my DD I'll take long road trips all the time, so the Z51 A8 fits that bill a bit better for me, and i love the way it looks.....
