And The GT500's only chance to overtake the ZL1 1LE is with a lot more horsepower. If The GT500 was being built to go H2H with the ZL1 1LE, why didn't it stick with the 662 horse formula along with the S550 GT350R chassis to make it interesting. I think Ford knows it needs the huge horsepower difference to compete closely with the ZL1 1LE.

I’m sure the GT500 will be on the S550 platform as is the 350R. The final number on the HP is not been confirmed but many suspect it’s around 725. Ford added this extra power in anticipation of Chevy’s future response to this vehicle. But this is just my speculation. Nobody knows for sure. Regardless, this car will be a beast.
I agree it's going to be a beast, with more HP than a hellcat and a road course competitor for the 1LE... Mission accomplished and something to look out for .

And the C7 Z06 has run a 7:13 on the Nurburgring, and has thus posted a faster time there than the ZL1.

I heard something about the C7 Corvette going to Nurburgring last year to test but something happened on the track and they were not able to get a full lap time in. That’s all I know about that test.

In any event, Sport Auto - fairly well known German car mag which regularly tests cars there got their hands on one and with a magazine driver ran a 7:13. Not too shabby for a mag driver:

I've had several saleen mustangs and shelbys and about a dozen corvettes. I finally sold off the fords and replaced them with corvettes. The mustang owner generally is younger and still working and takes their car to a weekend car show and sits. This was my experience with them.
I replaced them with corvettes and found a group of people that for the most part want to get out and drive them, tour with them and enjoy them. Cars shows pretty much bore me but driving, touring ect is what i enjoy and so do most corvette owners. I don't care what mustang comes out with its corvettes all the way for me.

The GT500 was designed from the ground up to take on the Camaro ZL1 1LE which happens to be a faster car than the Vette Z06. These are not my words but there are actual track times at Nürburgring Nordschleife (Germany) race track that confirm this performance. These times were made by experienced professional race car drivers. Now I don’t know how much quicker the Vette ZR1 will be than the new Camaro ZL1 1LE but the GT500 was designed to compete with the Camaro and I would guess it would be comparable in performance with the ZR1 on a road course. However, we are getting ahead of ourselves as this is a topic of discussion for another day. The OP specifically mentioned the GS and the GT500 didn’t he? So, to answer your question - no I was not “joking” to use your words.
Not sure about it being faster, it may be, but easier to drive according to this article, and others I have watched with Randy driving.

The C7 is showing it's age. I am sure the C8 will blow everything away as the C7 did when it came out.

Most on here perceive the Corvette as the extra-most-bestest car in the universe, and are closed-minded to anything to the contrary. It is a Corvette forum after-all, so that can be expected... to some extent.
I like my Z06, and considering the ZR1, however, the new GT500 is looking good so far. I’m eagerly awaiting the release of additional information

Contrary to some members, I consider this time legit and, frankly, about what I would guess.
