All the BMWs and Porsches that run it have O2 sensors and cats, so I don't know about that.

I think it's primarily a warranty issue. If you have an engine problem, they will probably do an oil analysis, and if you're not running a Dexo-certified oil, you'll probably have a problem.

I hope Mobil 1 has a tent set up at Bloomington Gold in Indy this June, as I'm going to be there for that and would love to pick up a free one too

Did that little procedure label come stock on your dry sump tank? My 16 Z-51 does not have that, though I am familiar with the level checking procedure.

I believe he's talking about the 0-40w cap.

I think they're talking about that "label" thingy.

It came on the car. I've had the car almost 2 years now and should take that thing off and throw it away, but so far I've just left it on there.

Do you think the price will be the same or will Mobil increase the price for 0-40W

My gut feeling tells me that when this oil hits Walmart we won't be able to buy it for the same price as M1 5w30 (which currently sits at about $26 per 5 qt jug but is often on for just under $23) I think it's going to be just over $30 per jug, but I hope I'm wrong.

Is the biggest advantage of the new 0W-40 oil that it be be used both on street and track?

What are the other documented advantages over the existing Mobil 1 used in C7s?

Can you save oil changes will get a lot more expensive

If I don’t see hard documentation of the benefits of the new oil I will just stick with the 3xisting Mobil 1.

Very cool... great way to get your feet wet. I'll be instructing with NASA MID-Atlantic March 23-25th. If you ever want to try a full HPDE feel free to PM me... it's addicting

Yes. If I only drove on the street I'd be indifferent to this change and just continue to run 5W30 which is the same my truck uses. On the track where oil temps run continuously above 250+ GM feels the the 30 in 5W30 thins out too much.

The 0 weight will help in cold temperatures, especially at startups. The 40 weight will help in high temps.

There is no documented data of any kind right now, simply because we know absolutely nothing about this oil, there are no specifications released from Mobil (I tried emailing them but they are tight lipped still) and nobody even owns a car with this oil in it yet. Give it some time and more info will come out (sooner rather than later I hope!). It is my belief that it will be a slightly better oil than the current 5w30, probably with a more advanced anti wear package, and being a thicker oil it will definitely have a higher HTHS number (High Temperature High Shear number) M1 5w30s HTHS number is 3.0, but this oil will be more like 3.5 to 3.7, so it will protect better under high oil temperature situations (like racing for instance) I also think it might be built similar to the Extended Performance Mobil 1 lineup, with a higher TBN and slightly more PAO in the base stock too, for longer drain intervals than the current 5w30 can handle (the EP lineup is geared more for 15k intervals while the regular M1 5w30 is for more like 10k intervals) If they build this new 0w40 based on the current "Annual Protection" lineup of M1 products though, which is geared for 20k intervals, then be prepared for it to cost as much as $50 per 5 quart jug.

I am definitely interested in running this 0w40 in my car, as long as the price isn't insane (like $50 a jug!). And if I do run it, I plan on getting the oil analyzed at the end of each interval (like I've done with the oil in all of my cars for about 16 years now)

If anyone finds where I can buy the 0W-40 Dexos cap, please PM me a link. As was stated, I think there will be a lot of confusion with the oils this could help with (and I need to get rid of my 5W-30 one now).

I'd like a cap for my Z51 as well.
