Default 0W-40 Mobil1

At the Rolex in the Corvette Corral Hospitality Tent right now listening to a Mobil1 presentation.

They say the new 0W-40 is a different formulation than the European version they’ve had for a long time.

The new 0W-40 meets the Dexos certification specs. They say it will be available at dealerships Feb 1st, but not in retail auto stores for about 6 months.

It’s good for the street and track. It will become the factory fill for all Vettes.

They also had a bunch of 0W-40 oil caps available, so I picked one up for my car!!!

EDIT: Let me add that I went to a presentation by Harlan Charles yesterday and he said that DOT 4 brake fluid will be the fluid put into the ZR1, and also in all Vettes. I assume that will be with the 2019 model year Vettes.

Six months would be good timing if they hit that goal...I'll be just about due for the next regular oil change.

Great news. Guess I'll be sticking with the 15W50 when I change the oil next month and continue to run it over the summer.

I bet the GM dealers are going to struggle with this change so I probably won't risk using my free oil changes. I track the car heavily and don't want them to substitute 5W30 which I think will be highly likely since that's what my oil cap says and what they've been using in the Vettes for a number of years now.

Oh boy, I predict a real CF at many dealers if the 5W30 oil remains the right oil for the other Chevy models.

We'll see if they do but remember, it's an oil co., not the tire company.

That "CF" you mentioned, of course, doesn't mean "Corvette Forum." It does mean, something about a "cluster mess," right?

Yep - it works on the dry sump tank. Actually I think the dry sump and non-dry sump use the same cap.

Here it is on my Z06 dry sump:

Good info... hopefully my dealer will have it by 2/1. I'm at 35% and have the car's first weekend at VIR in March.

Six months would work out well for me too, I have 384 miles on my C7 right now and by August I estimate I'll have about 6000 miles on it and the oil life will probably be close to zero by that point. I don't mind holding off on my first oil change for that long, I routinely go 10k or more between changes on my other cars with Mobil 1 (and my oil analysis results prove it's safe to do)

So when I go to WallyMart 6 months from now I will have to look for the USA formula 0W-40? I wonder what would happen if you happen to put "P" car oil in a Vette??? Would the DIC and the Infotainment girl switch to German?

Yeah...now if we could just call in and get those for free, instead of the stickers and hats.

I don't think he got it for free though, he just said that they had them available. I took that to mean they were for sale, not just given away for free. Isn't this like a $30 or $40 item?

They put a couple dozen on the table where we first signed in when entering the Corvette Corral Hospitality Tent, so you just had to go and pick one up!!

The Euro oil does not meet Dexos specs, and there are additives to it that are not O2 sensor or catalytic convertor friendly.

You can see on your picture of the jug of Euro stuff that it does not have "Dexos" on the label - the new stuff will.
