The GTLM Corvettes are detuned and running a 5.5L engine producing around 450 HP depending on BoP.

Another story on it that isn't the official release. http://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars/amp15947346/2019-chevrolet-corvette-zr1-vir-lap-record/
1/4th the price of a Ford GT and no stupid interview process to compete for the "privilege" of buying one that you aren't supposed to sell by contract 4 2 years. I'm a lifetime Ford fanboy, I admit it. At this point though, Ford has to be pooping their britches.

Oh crap, didn't see that. Even more impressive. The guy driving was doing a great job though. Imagine that was your job...very high retention rate.

Impressive for sure. But have to say, the Grand Course is still more fun on a motorcycle. I taught at a rider's school at VIR for 10 years, so probably have 5,000 miles or so on the track. After rounding the last turn, getting on the gas of a liter-bike will get you north of 175-180 mph on the longer straights. I'd love to do VIR in a Corvette though. Hate (in a way) that my new GS is a Vert, since most organizations don't allow Verts on track, unless they have a roll cage installed. Oh well....

Those of us that know the track well could probably make improvements in his line, but that's a darn fine performance. It looked to me like he was doing 156 going into the uphill esses, which would have me crying like a little girl, quite frankly.

It was a sloppy lap in a lot of places suggesting more time... but I've never been out there in a 755 horse car on "street" tires. My ST2 racecar had a stock LS6 on Hoosiers.

I'm actually going to be a little pissed if they take this over to the Nurburgring, rip off a screaming fast time, and shout it from the mountaintops. They couldn't be bothered to give us the Z06 time (we had to wait for Sport Auto to show us what 7:13:90 looks like in the Z) but did give us the ZL1 time. They should have given us the time, good or bad.
