Default Vetteskins C7 Corvette Panel Top Roof Rails

In a recent thread about the transparent top a member discussed his Vetteskins roof rails. See:http://www.vetteskins.com/C7CORVETTE...ROOFRAILS.html
Has anyone else purchased these rails and how do you like them? Do they look as if the top was painted or do they look like they are a stick on? Were they an easy install?

Some like them. I ordered them but sent them back when I found out they don’t cover the same width as the factory exposed carbon fiber roof.

Some don’t mind that but it bothered me.

I bought them, used it for about a month and decided to have the top rails painted instead. The vetteskins were OK at best IMHO. From a distance they'd look good but up close you can definately tell they were a stuck on graphic.

Thought I would bring this back and see if anyone else has installed these roof rails since I originally posted this thread.

I have them. They look ok from a distance, but definitely have a stick on look. Leaves a plastic edge about the width of a credit card. May remove them. Would rather have that area painted, mostly because the stick on rails don't overlap the top edge of the acrylic panel to line up with the seam to the rear of the panel and halo.

I bought them then returned it after seeing how they’re made. They use a thin piece of flexible plastic and they wrap it with a colored vinyl. It was thicker than I expected, didn’t cover the entire side “spear” area and the edges were poorly done. I’d rather have my transparent roof be entirely black than to have these poorly made spears on it.

I bought them and they did not fit right. He sent me another pair that were better but after having them on for a couple months, i grew tired of the stick on crap look.

Took them off and tossed them. Poor product. Get the rails painted if you really want that look.

From the sound of this it seems it would be better to simply see if a local sign company could match ones color with off the shelf vinyl, and if so work up a pattern, have them cut, and apply them... or, just have the top painted, duh.

Like Scoobydoobydoo, I had mine painted to color match exactly.

In retrospect, I definitely think that’s the best answer. Yours looks great.

Can you share any more details on the paint job? Can any normal body shop do it? Never painted an acrylic material. Any special prep or type of paint required?

Had them and after losing one a year later I decided I neeeded to look into other options. Credit to vettskins as he sent me a new one at no cost to replace my lost one. So I went another year and lost the other side. Talked to a local body shop and had my roof painted for $200. Looks so much better!

Isn't there vinyl wrap that you can buy that will do this and look great and not have to worry about fitment issues and cost a ton less?

I had a local body shop in Tempe Arizona do it. Due to the top not having a hard edge where you want the paint to stop, you will have a line that it noticeable to the touch (clearly, it will be higher on the paint side). No getting around this. However, the paint line ends in a small curve/indentation in the top. For me it is not a big deal at all. The paint was mixed to the specification for the GM AW color based on my VIN. It's a perfect match.

Default Bringing back this old topic

THREAD FROM THE PAST

I'm looking to do a similar thing. I have both the solid Red and transparent tops. I also have the painted A-pillars from RPI and painting the side of my transparent roof will make one continuous red line up the sides and I think look cool.

Anyone else do this? Lessons learned? Problems? Any good paint shops in Ohio?

Anyone do this with Vinyl?

Painted A-pillars and the transparent top

Painted A-pillars, red top, and can see the stinger stripe

There's 3M vinyl that you can put on it that is already paint matched. I've got it on my car and you can't even tell it's a wrap. Much cheaper and easier than having to get it painted or buy a new one.

Where did you get it from? I had a great experience with vinylfor my Jake Stinger from VetteStripes, but he doesn't seem to have the roof rails on his website...

I'm not certain as it was on the car when I bought it. It's probably just a roll of 3M vinyl that was just cut and applied. Can probably order off Amazon.
