Default Factory Tint peeling at top of windshield

I bought my 2016 LT1 C7 in December of 2017 with 8200 miles on it (now about 8900).

Last week, during a wash and wax (including the windshield), I noticed that the factory tint at the top of the windshield is peeling. It is not really very noticeable, unless you are looking for it. I was polishing the wax off of my windshield when I noticed this.

I have searched the forum, but have not found any other threads about this.

The car is flawless, inside and out, other than this one issue. I believe the previous owner babied it and kept it mostly garaged, although I suppose in the Texas heat it is possible that a few days parked outside could cause this problem.

My questions:

1) Has this happened to anyone else here?
2) Is this serious enough that I should have it looked at before it spreads?
3) I assume this would be covered under my bumper to bumper warranty? Should I take it in now or right before the warranty expires?

If mine would ask first what would be involved on repairs or replacement.

I worked for an auto glass distribution company for 9 years in the 90s.. it's called delamination. The only way to fix it is to replace the windshield. My 2015 has it as well. I took it to the dealer and they approved it for replacement under warrenty. I decided against it because I saw a lot of hacks when i was in the industry. Safelite is the worst, they have their own brand of terrible glass.. Anyway the dealer will replace it with quality OEM glass, i just didn't think it was worth it.. mine was like that from the factory and hasn't gotten any worse. Your call....

Right, BlueD, not "tint," but an issue with the laminate itself.

I'd expect it difficult to predict worsening or not. If cars still had some sort of window surround we'd never see nor suspicion it occurs.

My '16 LT1 SR M7 had the windshield replaced twice in two years because of this problem. Both times at the dealer; no cost.
After 6 months or so with this third windshield the problem is not showing.

Your experience with Safelite differs from mine. I have had Safelite replace the windshields in a C6 (twice), a CTS-V, and in my C7 without problems - and the glass is fine.

I handled their glass daily for a decade.. it was much more prone to breakage and having fitment issues.. glad to hear you got lucky.

Do all/most after market glass replacement companies have their own glass?

Only Safelite has their own branded glass as far as I'm aware. The glass company I use only uses OEM supplier brands such as Pilkington and Fuyao. Our Chevy Volt it came from the factory with Pilkington with the GM logo. After a car accident we needed the rear hatch glass replaced and it was the exact same Pilkington glass, but you could actually see where the GM logo had been etched off it (this kept the cost down as the Pilkington w/GM logo was far more expensive). I believe OEM Corvette glass is the same brand. The Chevy Cruze I used to own came from the factory with Fuyao glass w/GM logo. I'll have to check my GMC Terrain, but I'm sure it's one of those two brands as well.

Here's a good article to read: http://www.carwindshields.info/winds...nd-aftermarket

More concerned with how and who replaces the windshield. This is more cosmetic than functional. Soooo! If it ain't broke (cracked) why fix it.

I also had a C6 windshield replaced by Safelite but it took 3 tries. The first was the wrong one and was returned (I think it was made for OnStar) and the second had a scratch. So finally on my 3rd visit they said they put in an original equipment windshield with the logo taken off. It took some time but the job was well done and I never had any problems with it.

I had the windshield replaced under warranty due to delaminating on the driver's side. I was told it had been a problem but supposedly has been corrected. BTW, I was also advised the original warranty had to be in effect at the time.
Hope this helps.

My chevy dealer ordered a new windshield for me today during my courtesy AA (Android Auto) update. Should be here in a couple of days. They are giving me a courtesy car to use during the installation, all covered under warranty.
