Default So much tension in the air

I have noticed over the last several weeks that a lot of owners/members have been what I would call “on edge.” As I read some of the posts and comments, I can’t help but notice the general anger for lack of a better word in some of them. I realize it is the nature of some people. It’s their personality, but I can’t understand why there seems to be so much combative conversation. I’ve seen plenty of name calling (Had a guy call me a dork recently because I posted an opinion thread.) I don’t know I just don’t get it obviously. Why on earth would someone who owns such a beautiful piece of machinery that is really just a toy if you think about it, be so angry all the time? I think the general attitude of these less than happy people seem annoyed at everything. You can almost see them rolling their eyes as they’re typing away a response that’s less than friendly.

It’s sad really.

Have be a better day!

Too many angry internet tough guys. Little tolerance for differing tastes or opinions.

You’ll notice that some members are just a little too sensitive when it comes to their precious corvettes. If you dare speak ill of the corvette or have a differing opinion some members throw a bit of a tantrum. Most members however are great. I’ve been a member here for almost ten years and have learned from and helped a lot of people in the process. It’s generally a good place to be and hands down one of the best forums out there. I haven’t owned a corvette in months and still visit and participate this forum almost daily.

I didn't see the threads but I my guess is because you are in FL and able to enjoy your car on a daily basis. While many others in the East or Northeast are without our cars for 4 months this time of the year and are jealous/itching to get back in the saddle as soon as we get a warm day or Spring!!!!

I agree with @Z06NJ some are pent up inside, hating the weather and hating life because the one thing we all enjoy is driving our wonderful cars and they are not able to...

I need to start downloading my camera and posting to help out, Sounds like we all have a mission to help

It's not just here, it's all over the internet. This serves as an outlet or an invitation for people to express their opinions. Unfortunately (or fortunately!), when the outlet doesn't have emotions, can't talk back, has very little or no reciprocation, it becomes a punching bag.

While I agree, people should be more aware that their words do in fact affect other people, I think we should also give people the benefit of the doubt, whether we're on the giving or receiving end of things.

Reminded of the 7 years I was in NE Ohio along Lake Eire! Especially there the sun doesn't shine for months! So it's not just cold it looks the same when you go to work as it does when you go home, gray.

When I managed the Lab had blinds installed on the small slit windows and asked everyone to keep them shut and bring in plants etc! I put a 25 gallon tank with fancy goldfish in my office! Helped some. Could see the general depression in the staff.

When a Regional Manager called asking for technical help with a customer, that time of year if it was where the sun was shinning, I volunteered to go myself!

Was convinced the Aztec's originally came from NE Ohio and when they got to Mexico is why they worshiped the Sun! After 5 months of only gray skies each winter could understand they never wanted the Sun to go away!

It's a sign of the times. A person can't even express an opinion on a college campus, and in California to boot, the seat of free speech at places of higher education, without causing a riot.

Anyone can be mean, nasty, ugly and a bully behind a keyboard or email whereas face to face they don’t have the same boldness. I had an email tough guy at work and got tired of the tones of his emails and walked down to his office and sat face to face and asked him to tell me in my face in the same tone and words that he used in email. Guess what, he seemed rattled, scared and shocked to see me and apologized profusely and I never got another nasty email again. Like bullies, you call them on their toughness and realize they are all talk.

The majority of members come across as good respectable people until you get inside the off topic stuff ie: Politics, Religion and Controversy Section that seems to lack basic human respect for one another and a lot of offensive pictures, rants and a lot of name calling.

Knowing that, enter at your own risk and don’t try to rationalize irrational behavior by some. You have to have thick skin and understand there are extreme views and you cannot anyone like that as anything opposing what they believe is wrong.

Even in non off topic threads you have people who personality trait is different from others in that some people are naturally nice and respectful whereas others are naturally mean and disrespectful. We live in a place that are as diverse in all aspects as well as diverse in opinions.

I live in Michigan and getting 10 inches of snow between last night and today and can’t wait to bring my C7 out of storage but you will never hear me being rude, nasty or disrespectful as there is No Reason for that in my humble opinion.

Remember, “When You Resort To Name Calling, You’ve Lost The Argument” and lack the intellectual fortitude to have a civil debate or discussion.

I agree that people are generally more grumpy in the cold winter weather, especially Corvette owners who are suffering from withdrawals! I’m currently escaping the cold weather for a few days down here in Fort Myers Florida and everyone here is so friendly! It was sunny and 89 yesterday and today I have already seen about 10 Corvettes on my short drive out to the grocery store. Weather definitely plays a huge factor in your mental wellness, my wife gets very depressed in the winter back home but as soon as we get to warmer weather she feels no stress

PS, I saw 5 new ZR1s on Alligator Alley yesterday morning

Yep!
I was actually (until a year or so ago) the president of a particular collector's association and helped moderate our internet forum and while anyone could view our forum, you have to be a member registered under your 'real name' (no screen names) to post. As a result of this it was the most cordial forum I've ever participated on.

I guess it's much easier to be an "***" under the protection of anonymity.

I see a similar thing here. In the spring when the Harley's roll out of storage, they all are friendly and waving back at other motorcycles.
Then in the fall, they realize they are still on a POS Harley and they gained no useful riding skills this year and just stop waving at anyone.

Should have bought a Honda.
One good turn deserves another.

It isn't JUST in this forum we see nasty folks.
America is changing and a lot of things in life have become topics for combat.
It is what it is.

Hopefully, someday soon it will be dialed back and emotions will subside.
But I wouldn't bet on it.
Egos have become so fragile, most can't accept they MAY be wrong about a particular subject, even when presented with overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

OK, back to our regularly scheduled programming...

I've been a member of this forum for several years, along with many
other sites. The hostility on this forum is mild compared to some. The great thing about the web is you can simply close the thread out to shut down an annoying, aggressive, poster. This is a lot better than being face to face with the person, which usually results in a 20 minute one way exchange of ideas supporting their views. I think most of us are here because we love these cars. It's sad that over the years some very knowledgeable experts have left the forums not willing to tolerate the hostility.

This place is nothing compared to the old "Brigade" site. Its closed down now. I think Homeland security got sick of investigating some of the stuff that was said over there.

I did get a chuckle out of that comment. ...a post for the HD Forums maybe? By the way, the brakes on my ‘15 Street Glide are fine. Plenty of stopping power. Easy to get off topic, so here ya go😉

Great post. I've only been here a few months, learning. I get so pissed when I see someone asking a question, only to be told, by senior members, to RTFM. Some of us didn't have the manual... or a Corvette. Then it goes on to belittle the OP. If members don't have an answer, then don't post...unless you have something positive or actually answer the question.
