How It Really Feels to Drive a Corvette
By Conor Fynes

The Chevrolet Corvette has a legacy now spanning generations. When it all comes down to it, however, what really matters is the way it feels when the driver's behind the wheel.

As a Corvette owner who has been around for a while now, it is still hard for me to describe the feeling of getting behind the wheel of either of my Corvettes and taking out for the open road. Part of the enjoyment for me is that is not my daily driver. When I drive my Vettes it is for the pure pleasure of enjoying the power and handling prowess of the car, not the daily grind of commuting. I must admit that I also enjoy the comradery that driving a Corvette provides. It is a real pleasure to meet up with other owners around the country and talk about our cars. One of things that I enjoy is when non Corvette owners randomly engage us in conversation about our car and Corvettes in general. It seems everyone in the USA has an emotional connection to the Corvette brand. Everyone seems to have an “Uncle Bob” who had one back in the day that they have childhood memories of.

My wife and I have toured many places in the country in our Corvette. For example, I cannot describe the thrill we experienced driving our former C6 roadster down beautiful the beautiful coast road, Highway 1 in California. We have driven 3 different generations of Corvettes on the “Tail of The Dragon” We have driven the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Grand Canyon, Oregon, Vegas, the Rocky Mountains and many other places. We have made many friends along the way. In conclusion, I would say that our Corvettes represents much more than just a machine, but rather a lifestyle.

^^^ I'm at the other end of the owners' spectrum. My 14 crystal red C7 vert is my daily driver. I got it 2/14 and have put 66K miles on it. I think I had it for three days before I turned it into a work truck. My business, environmental services, takes me to jobs all over Southern California. I enjoy all the compliments I get and all the waves I get from other Corvette drivers. My top is almost always down. This is my first Vette and I'm kicking myself for waiting so long. (I'm 73.) We visit Big Bear Lake, a mountain resort at 7,000 feet east of LA, three or four times a year. My wife drives up in her Acura RDX with our two dogs, my big computerized telescope, and all our stuff. I drive up separately in the Vette. There's nothing better than cruising around Big Bear in the C7 vert with the top down and the two dogs, breathing the clean, pine scented air. I agree with the OP that our Corvette is a lifestyle.

Many many years ago I asked my older brother to let me drive his vette to this day still recall the excitement as I put the gas peddle down and hearing the sweet sound and car body seeming to lift up with the horse power.

I'm curious whether our esteemed Curated Content Editor owns a Vette.

"I'm at the other end of the owners' spectrum. "

I was too when I still worked. I only had to drive 6 miles each way and had a parking garage by the office, but it was still a thrill to pull out of the neighborhood and open it up before I hit town traffic.

Matter? Nope. Nothing on an anonymous internet forum matters. Just curious.

Thanks. We always go up the 330 to the 18, steeper climb up, lots of tight turns, and back down the 38 through Redlands, more straight stretches through beautiful forest.

I feel like I'm driving a race car (Bat mobile is good) as I can move the seat back while lowering the seat and move the seat height angle just so I can see where I'm going. Better than my old C6 and much better than my C4. The feeling is totally different.

Still find it amazing each time I get behind the wheel that I’m lucky enough to own a Vette.
Makes me happy each time I go for a drive.

I love the lines of my C7, especially the rear quarter panels, hatch, and tail. Its just sexy. I love the sound of the car unlocking and opening as I squeeze the door handle sensor. I love the graphics on the instrument cluster and infotainment screen that welcome you as you squeeze into the comfy drivers seat. I love the remnants of new car smell that remain. I love the sound and vibration of the engine as you start it up. I love the way it feels as my hand is resting on the gear shift while I cruise down the highway...its a perfect fit. I love that I can pass any car in any gear without even having to shift. I love that it can stop on a dime as I had to do today to avoid squishing a cat. I love how the seat hugs my body when I am cornering. I love the way the Apple Car Play maps look on the infotainment screen and I can't wait to see what Waze looks like when I switch to a Galaxy s9 at the end of the month. I love being able to play my entire music collection off of one USB stick and how easy it is to select tracks using the controls on the steering wheel and instrument cluster. I love it when car aficionados walk over and talk to me about how much they admire my car, and I love it when pretty girls ask me for a ride.

I ****ing love my C7.

I'm not buying anyone knows what it's like to drive and own a C7, or any MY, unless they do own and drive one. Both mine have been a rush to own and drive over 42 years and counting.

Ill chime in here a little bit...

For me, driving my Z is the ultimate thrill ride! Its not my daily driver so I enjoy the rare moments I get to spend time with her. I enjoy adding "things" to make her go faster and finally being the guy that tells all the young kids that stop and look "You can have one too if you do well in school"

At the end of the day, I feel accomplished. There are many choices of performance to choose from buy Im sticking to the grass roots of the American bloodline! Ohh Rah Baby!
