Default OEM wheels cracking an issue?

Since I’m new to the Corvette life, I could use some guidance. I am looking at getting some OEM black wheels for my GS. But I see a lot of online sets that have a crack, or were cracked and repaired, etc. Is that a big problem with OEM wheels or am I just seeing some rare happenings. Should I be looking after market instead? Thx

There are many threads on this issue. I suggest you go aftermarket.

Yes, C7 GS and Z06 wheels have a crack/bending issue. If you're looking to replace the wheels on your GS, go for high quality aftermarket.

Aftermarket, if you don’t want to worry every-time you hit a bump.
Forgelines have been ordered.

"There are many threads on this issue." Make that MANY, MANY threads. If considering a wide-body C7 (GS or Z06), consider a set of quality, fully-forged, aftermarket wheels as simply part of the price of admission.

A cheaper alternative to aftermarket forged wheels would be the C6 factory wheels...the C6 ZR1 black wheels are among the nicest looking wheels that Chevrolet ever put on a Corvette

I see many recommendations to buy forged wheels as the solution to the problem of bent/cracked wheels. I don't argue with that as the solution but spending $6-8k on wheels is a tough argument to make. If you're going to keep the car for the long term (Another 5+ years) it might make sense but if you've got a C8 in your near future plans, it might not.
As I've posted before, I've experienced three bent and one cracked (rear) wheels (Living in NJ doesn't help). I'm figuring another 2-3 years before purchasing the C8 (Waiting for the Z06 or Grand Sport). Call me crazy but I replaced all four wheels with another set of OEMs (Bob's House of Wheels), got the Magnetic Ride Software Update done along with replacing the original tires with Michelin A/S 3+ tires. The ride is significantly better and, I suspect, puts much less stress on the wheels. I've driven to FL and back without any issues, so far. I'll keep "Whistling past the graveyard" and hope it all works out!

This is an excellent link for every concerned stake holder to bookmark. It will be a future good resource to keep abreast of these lawsuits as they wind there way through the judicial system. Highly recommended read. Thanks for posting.

You can get some pretty good prices on Forgeline wheels. I am awaiting their arrival. I will keep my GS rims and tires, with less than 200 miles on them, in the garage. The Forgelines will be outfitted with Michelin A/S 3+ while I own the car. Once I am ready to part with the GS, the OEM rims with new tires will be put back on. The Forgelines will be kept if they fit on the next Vette I buy or they will be put up for sale. Forged rims sell pretty quick so you may drop $5-6K on them but you should be able to sell them, if in excellent shape, for $3-4K.

What is the advantage of getting a $5-7K set of Forgelines when you can get a set of monoblock forged for about $3K? Why are they so much more expensive?

Made in the USA, quality, reputation, warranty. Their manufacturing process is well documented. I will pay a premium for their product because those who have owned them can't say enough about them. I am not interested in buying cheaper alternatives made in China or Taiwan. If I paid $6K compared to $3K, that is $2.74 a day over 3 years. I don't drink Starbucks, so i am good with that.

This is good advice. Unfortunately the OEM wheels for the GS and Z06 do have some problems

After reading your post I am even more encouraged to file a claim now then I was previously. If you watched the entire Xmas Vacation film, you would have realized that Clark hoped to earn a bonus sufficient to build a pool in his back yard. Back in 1988 when the movie was made that would have amounted to around $15,000. Well it turns out Clark eventually got his bonus from the year prior in addition to an extra 20% of his bonus. That would amount to around $18,000! I think most wide body C7 owners would be more than happy to receive this amount from GM. Where do I sign up?
