Default Time to upgrade. Do I want a C7?

We upgraded from a C5 Auto to 2012 C6 M6 Base and love it, but I am 6'2" and my wife is a midget. It's the base model so we would really like to upgrade to a model with memory seats as well as other bells and whistles. We are considering an upgraded C6 or C7. So these questions are for the C7 folks who came from a C6:

--The C5 was hard to steer and the C6 was way easier and had a more refined feel. How is the steering in a C7?
--I am 6'2", will I be cramped in the driver or passenger seat? Convertible any different?
--I drive around Mobile, AL a lot. The roads suck. How is the ride of the C7 compared to C6?
--Does the C7 have the Targa creak like the C6?
--Any other compelling reasons for/against moving up to C7?
--If you could choose from a fully loaded, low miles, 2013 C6 vs lesser C7, which would you choose?

Thanks!!
Jason

The C7 is better in every way.

I’m 6’1” no problem at all

No my top doesn’t creak.

A 2lt is as loaded as you need. Front cameras, vented/heated seats, better stereo, hud...

Unless you really need PDR, skip the nav. Oh, get the mag ride. (MRC). I don’t care what the people that don’t have it say, it’s practically magic. Worth every penny.

Plus it looks way better.

The C7 to the C6 is what the C5 was to the C4, leaps and bounds better. You're tall, but not too tall for the C7. Once you drive one you will wonder why you even asked these questions. Yes! Buy a C7!

I'm also 6'2" and I fit in my C7, but I will tell you that it is a tighter fit than the C5 it replaced. Obviously the C7 is a better car that the C5 & C6, but the one area that it is not better than the C5 isthe amount of interior room. Never owned a C6 so can't compare it.

If you are long waisted, go for the Transparent top. You'll get more headroom. My son also has a C7 and he is 6'9". He had to have a special seat designed for him. He looks like a transformer getting in and out of the car!

I'm 6'2" as well and have owned C4-C7's. C5 was definitely the best interior room wise, then C6, C4, and then C7 in my opinion. Ingress/egress is not pretty on the C4 but once you're in, at least in my case, I find it to be more comfortable than the C7. Overall the C7 is the best car, for sure, but the interior dimensions have me a bit disappointed. I ordered mine a year before they were being built so had no time to try the seating until it showed up at the dealership in Oct. of 2013. I've got used to it, but for passengers like my son who is 6'3" his knees are right in the dash. I plan to get a ME one when available and hope they don't downsize the interior even more...

It depends on your proportions, I'm long waisted (6'1" with a 32" inseam). I'm a bit tight to the roof but it works. As stated above, the transparent top gives you about an inch of additional headroom.

Having gone myself from 2 C5's to a C6 GS Centennial (4LT) then to a '15 Z51 (3LT), I can say the C7 is light years ahead of the earlier gens. The ride has gotten better between the 3 gens; my C6 and C7 have Mag Ride, worth every penny.

You may have noticed that the dash got 1 1/2" closer to your knees between the C5 and C6. Likewise, the C7 is another 1 1/2" closer than the C6. The center console is wider but the dimension between the inside of the door to the console is the same as the C6.....they made the door panels thinner to compensate for the wider center section. Head room is better in the C7 because they moved the Halo back an inch or so along with the side (roof) supports thinner. I fit (6'1") much better with my helmet on in the C7.

You may need to disconnect the seat travel limit switch (very EZ to do); that will give you another inch or so of leg room.....

My C6 top made noise but not as bad as the C7. There is a TSB fix for the C7; I had it done and it has been quiet ever since (60K miles).

Save your money until you can afford at least a 2LT or 3LT, you will be so much more happy with the better interior (3LT). Do NOT drive a C7 until you are ready to buy; you will not want to go back to the C6.....EVER!

Good luck, enjoy the ride

Night and day.

Also, is your wife literally a midget or just short?

Are you set on a C7? Maybe it's just me but your post makes it sound like you want a high build quality sports/luxury car with creature comforts rather than a Vette. BMW M5 or AMG E63S perhaps?

I was looking for a daily driver thought I would get a C6 until I drove the C7, whatever you do don't drive the C7 it will make you wallet lighter.

If I were you I would go and drive a C7 to see what you think.

However, just off the top of my head, the most compelling reason to buy a C7 (imho) is the design. It just looks killer...inside and out. I do think the interior is more cramped than the C5 for sure, maybe the C6, but it is such a drastic improvement over previous generations its not even close.

Also of note, roads here in Oklahoma are pretty bad as well, the C5 handled them pretty good but my C6 felt EVERY SINGLE bump, crack, imperfection on the road, regardless if I could see it or not. It scraped when the C5 wouldn't have scraped, it scraped when my C7 does not scrape. For some reason that car was so stiff it was not a joy to drive unless you were on a perfect road. And the top sounded like popcorn in a microwave in the summer time.

The C7 is a much improved ride, that alone makes it a YUGE winner in my book. Also it rarely scrapes the front end and the ride is 100 times better over bad roads. The driving modes are awesome, the interior is swoopy, and the power is nice. Did I mention it looks really great?

Go drive one and let us know what you think

Default 6'2", long legs and sore joints

Have owned C5, C6 and C7......as cars go, no comparison but interestingly even though the numbers state the interior, driver's room of the C6 and C7 are basically identical, the C7 definitely feels a little smaller, not hugely but noticeably and my wife is a solid 5' 2" but as Abe Lincoln once said, we're all the same height, we all reach the ground

I'm 6'2 and the car is very comfy. I drove from Calgary to Las Vegas in a Mustang last year and was very sore, the Vette is much more comfortable even though it doesn't appear that way.

C7 just looks way better than the C6.

C7 in touring mode is very comfy.

C7 for sure. the c6 looks mighty old now and I think the c5 is nicer... the only question to really ask if you are looking to buy a new c7 is..... do you want to wait for the C8

For the Targa creaking I have no issue at all and that roof comes off a lot. I have heard of people on this site with the issue but not many. 1 was struggling to get a dealer to be accountable for this however looks like the issue is solved and the reports are rare enough to say it's not common.

I went from a C6 to a 15 C7. The ride is better I am 6'1" about 220 I have plenty of room. In fact most interior dimensions are the same or with in a tenth or two of a C6. its just different design so may seem smaller 2lt is pretty loaded the one I wanted happened to be 3lt since I didnt buy new I didnt take the depreciation hit. The ride of the C7 is better and the acceleration and handling is better too. I wouldnt get the competition seats can be confining to larger folks but the gt seats are nice which I have. Get the C7

I went from C6 to Lexus GS. All kinds of room and comfort but was never really happy. Got C7 and love it. I’m 6 foot 220 and it has plenty of room for me but not as much as C6. C7 is better driving car in my opinion. If I want roomy that day I drive the Silverado.

You can listen to the forum members pontificate for 50 pages, but you really have to drive a C7 to get the feeling. I’ve driven the C5, C6, and C7. They’re all nice, but the C7 is really a big step up, especially if You get a 2LT or 3LT with magnetic ride.

If we’re not including the C6 Z06, the C7’s throttle response feels explosive when compared to a C5 or LS2/LS3 C6.

There se isn’t as much head room in the C7, but it has plenty of leg room and shoulder room. I’m 6’4, with a 34” inseam and once I got used to sitting in the C7, I feel that it has plenty of room. Everything just feels like it’s in the right place, from the pedals, to the shifter, and steering wheel, the car is very ergonomic.

I say drive one and see for yourself. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

6'3" 235 lbs. here... I fit just fine after adjusting the seats to fit. While the interior dimensions may be the same as the C6, the dash is closer to you which give you the impression that the cockpit is smaller.

I've owned a C5 and a C6 and I can honestly say the my C7 is better in every regard. The response, the handling, the power, the looks, the interior, the seats, the variety of settings and controls at your disposal...it's a great car and you're going to enjoy it.

Post up some photos when you make the move.
