How did you get hooked on Corvette's

I was not a big corvette fan until I saw a beautiful shark gray 2015 Z06 in person for the first time while spectating at Willows Springs raceway two years ago. I immediately fell in love with the car and said to myself "that is going to be my next car". Last Nov, i bought a new 2017 Z06 with Z07. Best car I've ever owned.

Of course gap coverage and 3 year top of the line extended warranty put it closer to $28,000. Still far cheaper than the trucks I was looking at and my old 2006 Silverado still does just fine.

So what's your story. Mine was two part .Part 1, When I was a kid there was a neighbor a few houses down that worked at GM and always had a few nice cars Corvette's , GTO's he always let me hang around when detailing or working on cars . Part 2 In my early working career I managed a tuxedo shop and the owner had a 1982 white with red interior t- top One Saturday morning he was at store and we got a call from a groom who spilled coffee on white tux owner called warehouse and had new tux made up and tossed me the key's to Corvette and said go to plant get tux and get it to groom quickly. Well let just say he didn't have to ask/tell me twice I was out the door like a flash. I had a blast and was hooked on driving a Corvette ever sense. Just in case you are wondering yes I made it in time with new tux for groom, I hope that day worked out for him as good as it did for me! Took me quite a few years to be able to buy my own . I did buy a used 04 in 10 and ordered a new 17 GS last spring.
I took that Z28 off the road in the winter and drove $50.00 -$ 75.00 winter rats to keep the miles down>
Long story short, about 8 years ago my 79Z only had 30k miles and was all original, so I was going to up my collection and buy another F body driver for the everyday toy.
My wife went with me while I looked at 6-8 IROC Z Camaro's, but they never worked out.
One day in about 2011, I saw an 84 Corvette on Craig's list, with 84k miles and a 4+3 for about what the IROC's were selling for at that time.
My wife went with me, but waited in our car while the owner and I took a test drive. It looked OK, bright red, and when I turned the key it sounded pretty good, apparently it had muffler deletes.
So, I got back from the test drive and said my "I'll think about it and get back to you" to the owner.
When I got back in my cat, my wife asked how I liked the Corvette. I said it was Ok, but I like Camaros and had another one to look at the next day.
She looked at me and said, " I have always loved Corvettes and every year bought raffle tickets at the local field days to try and win one -oh, and I loved that rumble when you started up this one."
Bought that 84 on the spot -not knowing anything about Corvettes.
Well, I started to look it over and was amazed at the Aluminum suspension pieces, the go cart Z51 suspension and the 4+3, that I could turn into a close ration BW T10 with the flip of a rocker switch and how good the cross throttle body 350 started and ran - I was hooked!!
Did the Corvette thing and worked and detailed on that 84 continually and had a blast doing it ...though putting in a new clutch on jack stands, in my upstate NY unheated garage in February was not too fun.
By 2014 I was deep into Corvettes.
So, I felt bad when I walked by a 2015 Camaro Z/28 in the dealer showroom in May 2015 to look at, and buy my new Z51 Corvette.

I liked them as a kid, everyone had Sharks on the road back then, but I didnt love them. A HS buddy had an 86 vert as his daily driver and his dad owned several vettes, but he only drove the 86.
But when he went to college he got a 74 vert, and I really loved that car. I got hooked then.
I had gotten my Jeep totaled by an 18 wheeler and used the money to buy my 86 and I've been hooked ever since.

For cars it was 71 Mustang fasrback with American flag painted on it, walked by it everyday on way to school. First Vette, the Magician show, had a 73’ yellow Vette. First ride I was 19 in a 1974 454, dam fast ride from what I was used to. Then a 1988 white anniversary model showed up in my detail shop, knew I had to have one some day. 25 years past and ended up with a 2004 LeMans coupe, great car, minus numerous squeaks and rattles. 2 years after that ended up with a new 2017 coupe. There were many hot wheels and models of vettes along the way, including books on sale that kept the Vette interest alive and well all this time.

Hooked on Corvette
In 1960, just after graduating high school, I sold my first car, a 1950 Ford coupe with a 265 cu in Chevy V8 in it with 3 carbs and a 4 speed, to buy my first Corvette. It was a 1958 270 HP 4.11 geared one owned by an older neighbor who bough it new and didn't like it that much due to rough ride and non weather tightness. I loved everything about it. Paid $2500 for it, got $600 for my Ford and that was the start of a lifetime of Corvette ownership. Had most models since then and have a 2014 2LT, A6 base one now. Best of the bunch but loved them all when I had them.

For me, it started when I was 7 years old growing up in Seattle. My cousin was 17 and his parents told him they would go 50/50 on a car if he got a 'B' average. He did it (he now admits that he took some really easy classes), and he bought a then one-year old '57 fuelie with a 4 spd (first year of 4 spd). That car really impressed me, and I loved to get rides in it.
Although I always have liked vettes, and had owned over 130 cars by the time I finally came over to the light, I/we just never pulled the trigger on one. One of the reasons was the interiors always seemed just a bit too underwhelming I guess.
Fast forward to 2015. I had just sold our CTS-V and was going to get another car - it was going to be a F-Type R Coupe or Maserati GT. I was visiting my same cousin in Seattle and he had their brand new C7 in the garage. I sat in it and was blown away by the interior, and when he told me it was the 'mid-range interior' (2LT), I couldn't believe it.
Bought a '15 Z51 2LT a week later. Then about a year later on a short road trip we passed a '72 roadster with a sale sign on it. Blew past it and mentioned to my wife that 'it looked nice'. She said to turn around and look at it. Bought it. Then after a long road trip in the '15 she said she really didn't like the color of the '15 and suggested we get a new one. I always try to keep my wife happy, so we bought a '17 GS 3LT.
It's a disease. I/we have it and I'm glad. We really enjoy long road trips, meeting other people who share the same passion, and we're having a lot of fun meeting up with our cousin in Seattle on occasion too! Took me a while, but better late than never!

I got "hooked" on Corvettes with the Route 66 TV series. I started to watch the show at around 8 or 9 years old. Seeing Todd and Buz and the Corvette every week traveling the USA brought excitement to me. I bought my first Corvette ('66 Convertible) in 1972 at the age of 18 and have had them (37) ever since.

I was around nine or ten in the mid 1950s. I saw a black convertible Corvette and I told my older sister I would have a black convertible Corvette when I grew up. She said she wanted a pink Thunderbird. We bet a quarter on who would get theirs first. She never had a Thunderbird. I am on my third Corvette, but have not owned a black convertible.

What caused me to be hooked was the 60's show Route 66. Every time I hear the theme song it takes me back to when I was a 7 year old kid watching the series every week in awe! 1960 to 1964......it seemed like it was on the air longer. Two guys wandering the USA in a great Corvette with not a care in the world......what a life!
Then, in 1968, when my Father was at his Chevy dealer, the salesman showed my little brother and I a new body style big block orange Corvette Stingray convertible. He let us sit inside while he and my Dad were dealing on a 1968 Impala Custom Coupe! I was in awe of this neat car.
A cousin picked up a 1969 Stingray coupe 427 (I believe 390 or 400 HP) 4 speed in black with chrome Hooker headers/sidepipes and an L88 hood. When I first saw it, I asked him if I could wash it since it was dirty and he said yes. I think it was the first time it was washed since he had bought it and may have been the only time since he sold it with-in a year making a tidy profit on it! It was an awesome piece of machinery IMO!
I always wanted one and did without over the years until my cousins wife wanted to sell his 1976 Orange Flame Corvette with only 49,000 miles. My wife said she'd find the money and let me buy it. She was a Corvette fan all along since her brothers first car was a 1962 convertible! When I first met her, she could tell you what year any pre mid 70's Corvette was!

Don't remember where or when I saw my first Corvette. Might have been the tv show Route 66. I do remember trying to talk my dad into buying one for the family car.Never happened. I bought my first one at age 24, a 1967 conv. and have owned one ever since. We used to lay our son behind the seats. Now 46 years later I have a 1965 restomod and a 2014 conv. I'll probably have one until I'm pushing up posies.

I'm not "hooked on Corvettes," or on any car for that matter.
As far as I am concerned, it's just a car toy (like any others).

I have always had a love for Corvettes. It all started in 1968 at the age of 10 my uncle bought a brand new 1968 red convertible with a black interior and a manual transmission. I used to go for rides in it and the hook was set. In 1974 he traded it for a new 1974 white corvette with a tan interior and automatic. I got my license that year and got to drive the car constantly. In fact he would leave it with me when he went on vacation. Can you imagine being 17 years old and driving a brand new Corvette? I bought my first new Corvette in 1995, torch red automatic with black interior. My most recent Corvette is a 2018 Torch Red A8 with a black interior. I think I will always buy Torch Red unless they ever reintroduce Elkhart Green. That is absolutely my favorite Corvette color. If they ever come out with Elkhart Green again, whatever Vette I have at the time, it days would be numbered!

Hooked on Corvette
When I was a kid I lived in a small town (Crookston, MN pop. about 8000) their was a Corvette club in the even smaller town (Fisher, MN population 400) nearby. Basically successful farmers buying Vettes for their kids. They had a club meeting next to our cabin out at the lake. I had never seen a group of Vettes before, and was fascinated. Of course, changing tires at my dad's gas station did not quite equate to buying one.
Fast forward to when I could afford one: I looked at them off and on, but just could not pull the trigger until the C7 came along.
One last factor: Living in MN, all my previous sports cars were all wheel drive and I changed tires and drove them all winter. My C7 is the first car that I have had sitting in the winter, so kudos to my wife for driving our truck all winter while I head to work in our SUV.

Always wanted a Corvette. When I started seriously looking in 1993 I rented a C4 for 2 days. We drove it all day long the 1st day on all kinds of roads, we got in and out a lot, we even packed it for a trip. We went to bed that night still unsure if it was worth it. The second day the minute we got into the car we looked at each other and said we need to buy one of these. 4 days later we bought our 1st of 7 new Corvettes

My Dad got me hooked from an early age, I had a pink Barbie C4 Power Wheels when I was a kid. I sat in a green C5 at age 7 and thought I was invincible. I purchased my first Corvette at age 24, and it certainly won't be my last!
