I think you are answering your own question... you simply want the Z and THAT is the ultimate issue behind it ALL. Trust me; I've seen this before.

Unless you're going to keep your C7 for a long time, don't waste the money on that level on mods. Only do bolt ons that can be removed and sold and return the car to stock when you sell it. It will be harder to sell a modified car one day if you want to sell it to trade up to a Z06.
I'd suggest just doing full bolt ons and then saving for a Z06. Not to mention, are you okay with how the drivability of the car will change? It may be a little more cumbersome to drive and get lower MPG. Just be prepared for those things.

Safety Car
depends on how long you'll keep it
If it's a long term relationship fine, but know such changes will not be returned to you upon selling/trading it in....

Finalist 2020 C7 of the Year -- Unmodified
No mods ruins the value except for a select few and upgrade to a Z06!

I wouldn't mod a new car. That's likely why you're nervous. If you really want to work on a car, but a used one. If you want to own a new car, buy a new one. But buying a new car to work on would cause me some angst too.
Lots of people do it, especially around here. I tend to wait until the warranty is up because I feel like I've -paid- for the warranty, why ruin it. To each their own.
