Orange peel on new car

Foosh is right.
I custom ordered both of my C7's. You don't get to see them until they arrive and you never know what you will get, but both of them were ok. ( like almost all of the 120,000 plus c7's painted in the old shop )
It appears that some people but up all kinds of road blocks to actually committing to purchase.
Think about what they are missing.

OP Can be seen in a photo.

I agree this is silly. I thought my '14 looked great, and my new paint plant '18 looks great. I tend to focus on the whole car, and when you do that, you don't really see the differences. It's only when you're under bright lights and doing a "microscopic" examination of the surface from all angles can the differences really be discerned.
Being a realistic person, I was/am completely happy with both.

MY '17 is as good as any Corvette I've ever had and damn near as good as the SL550 I had, which was the best paint on any car I've ever owned. Is it a mirror finish? Of course not, but it looks great. I remember how inconsistent some of the early '14-15 cars were. Not any more. Bitching about OP at this point in the car's development is just nitpicking or looking for an excuse not to buy.

I don't think VETTE-NV was refering to the car you were looking at.
We were trying to determine new shop or old.
A search of Vancouver area dealers show one 2018 GS black coupe at Carter Burnaby.
If this is the car it is #3435....So old paint shop.
They also have a 2018 ZO6 convert in LBR that I looked at back in sept. It has bad orange peel also from the old shop.
Both of these cars are in a very bright showroom that may make them look worse than they are.
We all understand that you will not be buying the car. Wait till the end of March when the new dealer stock starts to arrive. You will eventually find one that meets your expectations..

Fair enough, but do your homework. Based on your first post, it doesn't sound like you know much about the car you're about to dump "100 grand" on. BTW, if you spend $100K on a Z06 these days, your insane. Either way, I'll believe when I see it.

C7 of the Year - Unmodified Finalist 2021
This OP stuff is wayyyy over my head, all I see is a nice car that I enjoy looking at and driving.
I don't think any car has a perfect paint job and most cares have some imperfections including my Lexus SC430 convertible, my C7 Corvette Z51, my Porsche Cayenne GTS, my GMC Terrain Denali and my Chevy Sonic RS.
If I look at any car long and detailed enough I would likely find some imperfections. However, we buy the car AS-IS displayed on the showroom floor knowing precisely what it looked like and what the quality of the paint or level of imperfections such as OP.
If you choose to buy a car then i suggest that you also choose to love and enjoy the car as no one twisted your arm and you made a conscious decision because it something more about the car for you than OP.
We can't blame the car company but should blame yourself for your decision as you didn't have to buy the car.
If I was that **** about a paint job, I likely would never own a car and would have to walk, catch the bus, subway or Uber.
Enjoy the car for what it is, a beautiful masterpiece and wonderful melodic sound that turns heads to all the comes into its presence in spite of OP.

He's here in Canada, so 100k for a Z06 is not out of line, our prices are about 20% higher here.

Not trying to be a smarty or anything just an honest question. Is the $100K in Canadian dollars? I would expect so, and that would explain the $100K price tag based on the current exchange rate with the US dollar.

That's correct, the base price of a 1LZ Z06 for 2018 was $93k in Canadian dollars, which works out to about 73k USD.

Looking at a 2018 WGG coupe painted in the old shop. It’s an out of state dealer so I’m not able to personally inspect it, and I am wondering if this color tends to be less prone to orange peel or if it’s just less noticeable.

That's a personal view I think. I have a 2017 WGG GSCE, I can see the OP, I know what to look for. I haven't had anyone tell me they see it, but it's not like people intentionally go out and point that out to people (unless they are on this forum). I think the less you worry about it the less it becomes top of mind.

People around here that have bought new C7s, seem fond of reporting that their particular C7, and/or, that their color of C7, has "less than others they've seen. " It's become as predictable as the Sun rising in the East.

Safety Car
I didn't know my night race blue had OP until I read about it in the Forum a year ago. I had to go out and take a close look at the paint to check. I had not noticed it in the 2+ years I owned the car. And yes, I had some barely visible OP. Then I forgot about it until I saw this thread today. So I guess I will have to go out and look again. Nah, I guess I won't. I am very happy with the car. I bet if I look really close I will find a small rock chip somewhere as well. Nah, I guess I won't look for that either.
Can't wait to drive it again in about one month!

“Orange peel” is a term that is over used and exaggerated. The C7 finish is certainly closer to smooth than not... As mentioned, painted SMC panels will not look as good as painted metal panels... but they’re getting closer.

I never noticed any paint imperfections on my 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD, that I owned many years ago. The paint reflected with the clarity of a mirror. The quality was over the top.
Beyond the OP that my 2017 C7 has, I have found perhaps two small paint imperfections. I would probably not be looking for them, if others weren't mentioning all of theirs too.
