Default SD card recommendation for PDR

What SD card seems to work the best for PDR in our new C7's?

Default PDR Cards

I'm using these:

Amazon Amazon

Just make sure you format them as FAT32. Windows 10 won't do that but you can get a programs named RUFUS which is free and will do the job. You can get the program at https://rufus.akeo.ie.

If you get the portable version there's no install, just run and format. Be sure to select FAT32 as the format and check off the "Create a Bootable disk using" and "Create extended label and icon files".

I use SanDisk Extreme Pro and Lexar Professional in my photography gear and everything else that uses SD or Micro SD Cards. Try to stick to the faster cards and you will be fine. Also, remember you are not limited to just a 32GB card, you can go much higher. Read the threads on what formatting tools for the large GB cards.

This works perfectly for me and I got it from Walmart.com and did a store pickup. No need to format or anything. Just take it out of the packet and insert it in the SD card slot in your glove compartment.

I use the SanDisk 32 gp Ultra - $12 at Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Sandisk-Ultra-...isk+ultra+32gb
You can use bigger cards, but they need to be formatted FAT32 before use - the 32gb card is plug-and-play.

I would use 128GB or 256GB if you want to do extended recording. FAT32 formatting takes about 2 minutes to accomplish. If just short recordings, the 32GB are fine.

I haven't looked at the manual but 32 GB max is not a real limit. As posted above, as long as you format the card to FAT 32 it will work fine. I have been using a 64 GB formated FAT 32 for two years with no issue.

You can format them huge with a third party utility on Windows, I've used a 256G for a long time. The only problem is the windows format command doesn't give you the OPTION to do it, even though Windows is perfectly capable.

So, for the record, it's actually a limitation of the format command, not Windows itself.

768 minutes give or take a few.

Maximum record time for one file is about 90 minutes, then you will have to start the PDR to record again. PDR does not tell you that it has stopped recording.

Just checking, for those of us who don't speak computer, what's more than enough and does this just apply to the PDR or can I somehow load my old 160gb IPOD onto it and use it for music? I can then give back the IPOD to the wife

^^^^^

SD slot for PDR is only for PDR use.

You are better off moving songs from Ipod to USB drive.

I can assure you that you can go much higher than 32GB without any problems. Owners manual states max for a lot of things that we all know can be changed....think tires, yes many run a slightly larger tire.

In my Honest opinion, 32 GB is MORE than enough for PDR. It is only used for HPDE and Autox recording right? 32 GB card still gives you something like 700+ hours. Each HPDE session is 20 minutes. That's a lot of sessions. Autox runs are like minute long. That's a decade of autox runs. After you do a few events and upload the videos on your computer, you can delete the files which will free up the card again. I do not see why someone needs to spend money to buy 64 or 128 or 256 gb cards.

It is actually 12 hours at no more than 90 minutes per recording session.
People who use the PDR as a dash cam and are too lazy to pull the card and clear it every 12 hours would benefit from a 256 gb card, which has 96 hours of record time - which is about 3,300 miles of driving at the average speed of 35 mph.

I agree, though I wouldn't use the word too lazy....I would use find it more convenient not to have to pull.

That's exactly what I did. I used a 256G card, formatted it FAT32, and then only needed to empty it infrequently. Used it as a dash cam.

Then I bought an actual dash cam and no longer needed it, so I think I have a 16G card in there now.

Remember an HD movie on DVD is only 5G, and that's 2 hours.
