Have enjoyed rowing through the gears on my 2014, but now thinking of moving on to an auto. Anything I should know about as far as reliability of the newer A8s?
All you have to do is steer.....you will no longer be driving.

The A8 is a viable option that has pros over the M7 and while some early A8s had issues it is currently very reliable. Going with the A8 over the M7 is a personal choice that changes the driving experience but doesn't diminish it.
Have "driven" machines my entire life (including some nuclear powered) and this response seems a little pedantic but definitely useless and condesending.

I owned 4 Corvettes. Two were manuals, 2 were auto's. The next one will be an auto as well. I will not even consider another manual.
Don't pay any attention to the people who post you need a manual to be "one with the car". Because these same people drive a car with power brakes, AC, heater, power steering, power windows, cruise control, mirrors, etc.
Its easy, like to shift, buy the M7. If not, buy the auto. There is nothing macho about rowing gears anymore. I been doing it for almost 50 years and am tired of it.
I've gone back and forth between various stick and auto cars for years. Raced stick cars in SS/D and M/P. Crewed for Stavola Bros in Winston Cup. I like stick cars. I also like the new automatics.
It's personal choice. Nice to have it. Our GS is an A8 and we love it. Our chromie is a stick, and we love it too.
I would never presume that my personal choice is the best for anyone else.
$$$frumnuttin', if it's what you want, go for it! We've got 4 A8s (2-'15s, 1-'16, and 1-'17) - all working flawlessly. And yes, I would know if they weren't.
While the auto in our C7s isn't quite as great as a few others, it sure bangs off quick shifts and was a blast at Spring Mountain.
Stating the obvious it’s a personal choice. That said if you haven’t already done so go do an extensive test drive of an auto to see if you think you’ll really be happy with it. I was considering exactly the same change and after the test drive of the auto ordered another manual.
If you enjoy the driving involvement of your actual manual shifter, for sure you would miss the feeling. Same thing happened to me after many years behind a shifter just to please the wife.
The Corvette driving experience is enhanced by the manual transmission. Some can't see it, but it's still there.
Short of being befallen with failed or failing limbs, I'll never own & drive another Corvette with an auto transmission. One, was one too many. You won't have any trouble finding an auto-trans C, since over 70% built are autos.
Shift my A8 like a standard.Only Difference, left foot takes a break.Then when it's time to turn up the Tunes the tranny goes to D.Or sipping choice beverage.

OH no say it ain't so....................you'll just get lazy, sit and admire your car more drive less and life will pass you by. All kidding aside the only vets with auto trans problems are the ones on this forum. Other than medical reasons I wouldn't switch.
Yes it's an M7 trans.
I was the opposite.. had an auto hated it.. Sure it worked as it should of..Nail it and she kicked down and got after it. Just doesn't feel the same when your spirited driving... My trucks can stay auto, my sports cars need to be stick.. But that's just me..
I love to shift a manual trans, and have always had them as DDs including my current with 407,000 miles. I do realize they are quickly becoming a thing of the past so my '17 GS has an A8, as is best of both worlds. Also, if decide to sell your C7 at some point your market for a manual is MUCH Smaller than for a A8.
I’ve mentioned this before. I’ve always been a manual guy, but today’s performance auto transmissions are just about as good as a DCT or DSG. You have the flexibility of being in auto on the highway or heavy city traffic and manual when you want more control in other situations. It’s pretty responsive and you aren’t forced to skip from first to fourth in normal conditions when in manual mode.
I think everyone should have a manual trans somewhere. If the Vette is your only fun car, it makes sense for it to be a manual.
But since I have old cars with manuals, I don't need my Corvette to be retro, so I ordered it in the fast A8 configuration and don't miss rowing the gears.
Here's mine! I just restored the linkage and rods and so on...
