Default Owners of 2LT/2LZ who later sat in a 3LT/3LZ - Did you want to upgrade?

Hey all,

I'm just curious about those who got a 2LT/LZ and later sat in the 3LT/LZ (specifically those who bought PDR as an add-on)...

Did you regret not spending the money on more leather and such?

If so, what made you feel that way?

If not, why not?

I have a 3lt and wanted the pdr. Used it maybe twice. Mainly I like the dual tone interior better on the 3lt and since I got mine at 20% off I figured it would have better resale with ever option.

Had I not bought a 3LT, there's no way I would have done without all the upgrades it has, and at least one of which the lesser models cannot be upgraded to. The PDR, and all the rest of the 3LT upgrades are indispensable.

I have a 2LT and still don't want a 3LT. I specifically did NOT want the suede seats and still don't. I have the PDR in my 2LT and the heads up and cooled seats are the main things I wanted from a 2LT

3LTs do not all have suede seats. Mine certainly doesn't.

I’ve had both, and while I have to say the PDR is a nice feature(really learned to use it at Spring Mountain), I would get the 2LT over the 3LT(or 3LZ). I wouldn’t go without HUD, front cameras, or heated seats. If you are are ordering one, get the 2 LT/Z and PDR separately.

Perhaps GM should create a 4LT option for adding a heated steering wheel and auto-retracting side mirrors.
They could probably get another $7500 or more for those two features.

There is no difference in seating feel between 2LT and 3LT. The latter gives you extra leather on the dash and door panels. That's it.

GM claims that the leather quality is higher on 3LT, but that doesn't translate into seat feel, and I don't see a noticeable difference in quality. They're both manufactured "leathers," not actual cattle hides.

I planned to order 3LT buy my dealer suggested I go with the 2LT. It doesn't look as nice as the full leather 3LT but I don't have to worry about the leather on the dash baking in the sun, either.

I ordered the NAV / PDR as an option and use the NAV a lot. The PDR is nice but not used much as a daily driver.

I have the suede leather inserts and steering wheel and like both. The seats aren't as slippery as leather and the steering wheel doesn't get as hot as leather does.

What would you expect for a mere $10,000 more.

I think the best thing you can say about the 3LT cars is that the dealer-ordered ones are most likely to be sitting on lots longer, thus earning the deepest discounts off MSRP. Most folks aren't willing to pay the extra freight for leather on the dash and door panels. From an extra equipment standpoint, 3LT doesn't get you anything.

When shopping for my new C7 I did notice quite a number of 3LT Red Tag Specials. Every one of them was a hatchback A8, with chrome wheels in the $80K range. They couldn't hardly give 'em away as equipped - even with massive discounts.

My point is only that in IMO the high costs for these upgrade packages is absurd.

However as long as C7 purchasers continue to pay these prices I guess GM will continue to 'bundle' extra cost options. I preferred the old days where you could select individual options from a priced menu only paying for features you wanted.

I agree in principle, but the 2LT/Z bundle does bring a lot of extra equipment into the equation:

Seat memory pkg
Seat adjusters, power bolster, and lumbar support
Power heated outside mirrors, adjustable driver side auto dimming
Inside auto dimming rear view mirror
Heated and ventilated seats
Universal remote garage door openers
Premium Bose sound system w/ surround and subwoofer
HUD
Advanced theft deterrent system
Front cameras

The only extra things 3LT/Z brings to the party is the extra dash and door panel leather and what they claim is better leather at double the cost of 2LT/Z.

True, however if the front camera is the only feature that interest you then it's $4500 or do without.

Absolutely true, but I really like the HUD, seat memory, powered lumbar and bolsters, ventilated seats, and the upgraded sound system as well. They add a lot of comfort and functionality for me.

A total a la carte ordering system would be nice instead of the bundles we see on all vehicles these days, but it really complicates the manufacturing/supply chain process, thus driving up costs, so the system is what it is. My preference is the 2LT bundle is worth it, but 3LT is not.

I selected the 2LZ over the 3LZ, and have no regrets whatsoever.

People talk about the big difference in quality of leather between the two --- I did not find that to be true. I did see that the material used for the 3LZ had a different look --- but did conclude that it was necessarily "better" or of higher quality --- just ... different.

In fact, I found that I actually preferred the textured look of the 2LZ over the smoother look of 3LZ that people apparently associate with the higher "quality" of the 3LZ --- both of which are actually "manufactured" leather.

To each his own, I guess.

I have a 3lt and 3 yrs later it still has a strong leather smell which I absolutely love. I have no regrets on spending the extra money for the 3lt instead of the 2lt.

I actually sat in one prior to getting my 2LZ. I did get the PDR but didn't think the extra lNapa leather added any value for myself.

Discounting the cost of the included NAV/PDR, much of the 3LT cost difference comes down to the cost of the Napa leather (real leather) trim vs the Mulan (bonded) leather. I've personally only ever had the bonded type in all of my vehicles and found it to be perfectly fine.
I ordered a 3LT simply because I wanted a spice red interior. If I was going with any other color, I probably would have gone 2LT with NAV/PDR.

Here's a good read on Napa leather (https://bestleather.org/types-of-leather/napa/).
