Z51 vs base. Z51 worth extra money? Is there a noticeable difference?

I appreciate the "thanks" on my thread and I was thinking you were OK...that is until your admission of having Chrome wheels. Really lame. Now, should you want to become cool like me, I suggest the machined face wheels....which takes some of the sting (see what I did there) out of having JUST a Stingray.

My 2015 Z51 will be 5 model years old when the 2020's come out...and there's a C7 GS, Z06 and now a ZR1 that are " above" it...
Whatever will I do?
Oh yeah, that's right, enjoy the hell out of it for what it is!

For those that think the dry sump is such a daunting extra hassle...let me tell you it's no biggie. I too had the misconception about it but chose the Z51 for all the pros that it brought to the table. I quickly learned that checking and changing the oil is really simple. Well there is a little extra oil to drain and an extra drain plug to remove so it does take a few extra seconds to change the oil...

You would be crazy not to get Z51. Sooo much world class tech for next to nothing. Don't listen to the granny drivin geezers in here, you'll regret it.

Once you have it, you’ll never wish you hadn’t bought it. If you don’t get it, there may be times when you wished you had.

My first C7 ('14 Coupe) was a base car with only the NPP optional exhaust. I later added the Z51 wheels with Michelin UHP A/S tires, Z51 rear spoiler and added the Z51 front and rear sway bars. Best riding Corvette I ever had and the handling was great!

Here in Europe, there are only 2LT/3LT Z51 models because it fits euro standards better : little curvy roads, luxury car category . (a "base" C7 here worth 110.000 of your $ after taxes here ) But knowing the US roads, i would probably go for non Z51 if i lived in California for Ex. I would opt Just for MR shocks cuz its the best.

Z51 was a must have for me as I track my cars. The gearing in the trans makes it worth it on the street. I ended up in a 2LT (was not shopping based on trim level) and am very happy to have the heated and ventilated seats and the better stereo.

P.S. Please keep in mind the original OP's question was whether "Z51 was worth the extra money?" Sometimes it just boils down to personal preference - that's what usually turns these threads into a train wreck.

Even if the salesman asked you if it was a Z51, how do you know he added any value for it? Asking the question, and offering you more money for it are two different things.
Once a car gets beyond a certain age, options no longer mean a thing in terms of resale value. It's all about the condition of the paint, and the mileage.

That's not my experience at all, when selling my non Z51 C6 a few months ago, there wasn't even any extra value added on KBB for Z51.

Even if you disagree that the Z51 adds resale value at trade in time, you can't argue with the fact that you don't get your investment back. You spend $4000 or so when you first buy the car, but even a year or two later you certainly won't get that much.
I'm not saying the Z51 package is worthless, I'm just arguing the fact that it's not something to purchase soley based on resale value. The best C7 for holding it's resale value is a low option 1LT car (like mine, but I have no plans on selling it for a very long time)

Interesting thread as I am trying to decide between a 2LT "new" 2017 that has the performance exhaust ( big part of the Z51 package if you ask me) and the carbon Z51 spoiler and some other goodies including the Nav/data thing. The other car is a slightly used ( 1100 miles ) 2016 ( Long Beach red) that has both the 2LT and Z51 and many other options including the glass roof ( is that a good idea btw?) Price is almost the same with the 2016 Z51 costing about a grand more. I'll most likely never track the car but I will be getting after it and I live in Montana so higher speeds are available. I've only driven a Z51 and was pretty blown away by how tight it was in the corners. Did not notice the ride being too stiff but it was a short test drive. The "new" 2017 has the old 18"/19" wheel set up ( they don't even offer that anymore) so I know tires will be cheaper ( don't care) and the ride will probably be more cushy and that's fine too. The only thing I wonder is the gearing and performance shift situation on the Z51 that much better/different? That and the exhaust is really the things I would care about.
Also the 2016 LBR car has chrome Z51 wheels. I'm not a huge fan of all the black wheel packages but are chrome wheels dated at this point?
