Brakes: Z51, Z06 and Z07 differences
Forgive me if there's already a thread on this. All my searching on the forum and on the googles has only yielded me comparison's between the base and z51 brakes or the z06 standard vs z07 brakes, and most of those comparisons are just talking about stopping distance, not physical makeup differences. This query doesn't include the standard stingray brakes, so just disregard those. My question is 2 fold. Are the z51 brakes the exact same as the standard z06 brakes? Also, do the z06 and z07 brakes use the same calipers (obviously they don't use the same rotors, and I'm not concerned about the pads)?
My curiosity stems from switching from a z51 to a z06 (non z07). The brakes LOOK exactly the same to me, but I'm not sure if they are. I have replacement pads for the z51 and am curious if they'll fit my z06. Also, I'm wondering if the z07 uses the same calipers as the standard z06 because I'd like to upgrade to those sweet z07 CC rotors and if it's just a matter of changing the rotors, i could swing that.

Well that doesn't really answer my question. I'm also not sure why you say that. The Z07 package is about 8 grand and includes 3 grand worth of aero parts, so I can't imagine those rotors are THAT expensive. Anyway, I'm more looking for some insight as to how the calipers compare than advice on what not to buy. If anyone has any info, I'd love to hear it!

The rotors are around $3k each through parts.

I can answer the Z51 vs Z06 (which are identical to my Grand Sport.) The front calipers on the Z51 have 4 pistons per side the Grand Sport 6 pistons.
This is PDF of my replacement to Carbotech 1521 ceramic pads on both my Z51 and Grand Sport=Z06: http://netwelding.com/Ceramic_Pads.pdf
There are pics of both.
Since I have the Z51 and Grand Sport=Z06 OEM Brembo pads, just took this pic:
As noted the Front GS/Z06 6 piston pads are large than the 2 piston Z51 pads.
The Rear pads are the same
Check with Adam for Carbotech, search the Threads, he is a forum vendor. I recall he said the Z07 uses the same pads on those very expensive Carbon Ceramic Rotors!

If i remember correctly the Z51 is the same as the base car, but with a slightly larger diameter rotor. or maybe it was just that way on the C6.
The GS/Z06 are 6 pots, and are completely different. The Z07 is carbon ceramic, and other than probably never wearing out, will do little for you on the street other than looks. In addition to the caliper/rotor setup, the GS/Z06 likely have a different brake proportioning valve as well.
This means pads between the base and Z51 are likely interchangeable, as well as between the GS/Z06, but not regular to wide body cars.

If I'm not mistaken, the Z06 calipers won't fit under Z51 wheels either.

Wow, thanks guys! Lot of good input. That pretty much clears it up for me. so i guess i need to sell those z51 pads. Man. Could have sworn the Z51 rotors/calipers looked the same as the Z06, but yeah, I can see a pretty big difference in the front pads in that pic. Jesus!

So does that mean it just needs the Rotors to upgrade the rear Z51 Brakes to the rear Z06 Brakes.
I upgraded the front Brakes already and it needs
- calipers
- rotors
- pads
- lines
and it requires a spacer, if you want to keep the original wheels (10 mm is perfect for me).
