Default GM Buyback-I have never heard of this!

I have an employee who bought a 2014 stingray. In the 4 years he has owned it he put less than 10,000 miles on the car. After 3 months of ownership he brought the car in for a recall repair. At various times since then he had battery issues, due to his not having the car on a battery tender. Three months ago his DIC went blank. He still had the heads up display but nothing else.

Since the car was out of warranty they wanted to charge him for the repair. He complained and the dealership told him to call GM. He did and after talking with them for a couple of months, GM agreed to buy back the car. He paid 76k before tax and license and they cut him a check for 72+k. I saw the check.
Unbelievable!!!

Has anyone ever heard of this?

Kind of. My friend had a VW TDI and got almost exactly what he had paid for it 3 years prior. For a Corvette, never.

LOL I just cannot comprehend why they did it. The Z06 guys had to file a lawsuit about the overheating. Maybe there were diamonds hidden in his car.

What was the story behind that one?

Many states have “Lemon Law’s” that force manufacturers to buy back cars that have problems. There are usually repeated issues that prevent the customer from using the car nn days over nn months. I know of a Corvette owner here in Mississippi that had a C6 that was bought back and then he purchased a C6 GS to replace it and has had no issues.

Thanks. The Lemon Law here in Ca does not apply in this case. Glad to hear the person you know is not having any more problems.

Maybe he had compromising pics of Mary B with her girlfriend. There's gotta be more to the story than a blank DIC.

Yes, but you likely won't get the full story from GM's point of view.

A similar example: Years ago my wife's minivan had a huge crack develop in the front pillar sheet metal where the driver's door hinges attached. It made for very weird electrical problems as the door was moving around and intermittently contacting the door switch. We had a guy who does custom body work weld in a gusset and repaint, a really beautiful job (and cheap!). Happened to show to my wife's cousin who is a body design engineer for the van's manufacturer, and he endorsed the high quality of the repair but said he was upset that we'd had it done. He would have been happy to buy back the van from us before the repair so that his group could have diagnosed the problem and prevented it as an issue going forward. He said this wouldn't have been unique.

That Chevy wanted to do something similar with this Corvette and its problems is entirely possible.

there are stories here of guys having trans. problems that lead to engine problems that lead to by backs from G/M. These are rare and few,

It would be interesting to find out if GM insisted the Corvette be returned to Detroit.

MS-13, out.

Like some of you said, there must be something about this specific vehicle that they wanted back. And I bet that it is being sent to Detroit. Other than a recall, his only real problem is the blank DIC. He is a lucky guy.

ALL VW TDI's were bought back because of "cheater" emission controls. Plenty of info about this. Totally different situation.

Never ever heard of GM doing something like this. Did I say, ever?
Not that it w/couldn't, just not heard of it after orig B2B ran out anyway.

In any event and for whatever reason(s) he got a pretty sweet deal IMO.
No time to look a gift horse in the mouth, run cash that check!

Unbelievable. That it happened, and his luck.

Anything is possible. Show us ALL the correspondence and check from General Motors. Believe half of what you see, and none of which you hear or read, in this case.

If your car falls under the Lemon Law standards for your state, it doesn't matter whether they can fix it. Contact a lemon law lawyer, take the money and run. Get a new one if you wish.

It is both sweet for him and unbelievable. I told him the same thing about the check!

He texted me a picture of the check when he dropped the car off yesterday. From GM PO Box 62530 Phoenix. Bank was JP Morgan Chase for $72,255.69. I really do not care if you believe me or not, it happened.
