I have people who want to run often. A BMW suv that was pumped up just yesterday. This was on the freeway. He smoked past me and I told him out loud that his Beamer is way faster than my Vette. There was traffic everywhere. Common sense told me not to play. It wasn’t the time or place. I refuse to loose my car or my license simple because my Vette is fast. I’ve hit my fastest speed on the track only. Not on the street.

When there are so few cars that can actually keep up with the Vette what would you prove!

Make sure you have a 7 figure personal liability policy-

He wont get butt raped in county (especially Washtenaw county) but he might get the crap beaten out of him a few times, and I hope that's what happens.

You can consider the posted speed limit opinion. And, you can consider the ability of the driver opinion. What worries me about excessive speed on public streets is the unknown road conditions (holes, wet spots, trash etc.), animals, or another car coming out of nowhere. You are not on a closed course that is kept clear of surprises.

BTW, in many cities 90 in a 45 (and most rural area also) will cause a loss of your license, and maybe even the impounding of your car. And trust me, that ain't good. I have had the opportunity to drive several very nice cars to the yard in my career.

As most any law enforcement officer will tell you he/she doesn't have a quota, they can write as many tickets as they want.

We have drag strips, track events, speed events. Plenty of places to drive your Vette and have a blast, safely and legally. Leave the high speed street stuff to the amateur clowns who think that they’re proving something. It’s already hard enough to be defensive in traffic. No reason to drive like a granny but better to err on the slower side of tickets/jail.
Texas Mile again next week, btw.
Cheers and enjoy your great car!

I recently got my 2018 z06 2lz auto with pdr and i use the car for commuting since its my only vehicle. I have been using waze for the last few years and just bought an escort max 360c radar detector which uses the car's wifi to get updates. So far working Waze and the 360c TOGETHER has worked for me every single time. But there are also times when I find Im having too much fun and on a fairly empty road im hitting 90+ in a 45 zone. I guess the question is how fast can or should you go on the street while not being a hazard to everyone else out there even if you dont get a ticket or are worried about law enforcement. I have never street raced anyone.

In my neck of the woods 20 over the posted limit can result in a Criminal Citation for reckless driving.... which can result in jail time of up to 1 year.

Many years ago I got a ticket on the Long Island Expressway for going 90 in 65 mph speed limit. Lost my drivers license for 30 days. As a result my insurance went up and I had to get friends and family to take me to work. Lesson learned! Nowadays Leo's will probably have your car towed and put you through a lot of grief. You're pushing your luck brother.

To the OP - I'm not going to even attempt to offer an opinion as to what's too fast. It depends on the road, the conditions, and numerous other variables. Many speed limits seem to be set more by financial considerations than physics - particularly in some smaller towns.
What I will say is that doing 90 or 110, or even 150 in a straight line is not exactly difficult - it requires you to hold the wheel straight and push down on the gas pedal.
You can certainly play on the street - and there are probably very few members of this forum who haven't done some amount of playing in the past. However - when you look at what you're risking - it's just not the smart thing to do. If you want to play - go to the track - be it a drag strip, a road race course, or a airport runway, and have at it in a controlled environment. I did my first track day over 20 years ago - and after that I slowed down on the street, as there was just no way I could ever have that much fun on the street. At the track you don't have to worry about police, or kids, or deer, or potholes, or people doing 35 in the fast lane or any of the other stuff that happens out there - the only limits are your skill and the laws of physics...

One can do a lot of spirited driving the area I live at, but it isn't speeding. There are roads with 65 speed signs that have a lot of curves recommending 25 and 35 slow warning slow downs that I will run at 65. I enjoy the 1.0 G forces. Warm tires, warm weather, and good rubber!

I don’t have A radar detector.Virginia.I do 55 in A 45.I will do 80 in A 55 mph zone when passing only.I will race at A traffic light til 10 miles over the speed limit then back off.I have
700 hp I don’t get many takers. With no speed detector I can only do so much. With you doing
90 in A 45 they might impound your car in this area.

Bold move and one not to take lightly in VA. Over 80 is reckless driving, but so is 20+ over the limit.
