I was speaking to a friend and we both had similar stories about breaking the news of our ZR1 purchases to our wives....my friend told his wife he didn't want to wait until he was geriatric to buy his ZR1. He had to buy her a horse and he was in. I told my wife "I think my time on earth is coming to an end and I don't want to die without having a new ZR1 first". My wife thought it was a massive waste of money and stated "we could buy a nice horse instead". Coincidence or Conspiracy women and horses???

Many guys here seem to have had to settle for an automatic transmission so their wife could drive it. If you can get the horse for around $1,700 which is what GM charges for the A8, then it would seem fair.

I've the right wife... so, she wrote the check for the wire transfer and never batted an eye, but in all fairness she's been at it quite a while.

Oh yeah, and I forgot, my wife's driven her own race-car at Bonneville Speedweek. So, what's a new Vette... or two once in a while.

I'm certainly no expert on giving advice or always making the right choices, but if you don't marry someone who is also your best friend, you're crazy.

I would assume for some of us, this isn't our first go round with toy purchases, the more toys you go through, it somewhat gets easier to move on to the next thriller of automotive technology, wife just thinks OK...he's moving on to another toy....also like to add, somehow I feel at ease, when I know it's my money involved.

I remember with my first wife when I wanted to buy a used C5 in 2004, I spent something like 2 hours having a conversation with her trying to convince her and finally she caved in. For many reasons, she was not the right one for me, we divorced in 2010 after 10 years of marriage. My new wife is awesome! In 2013 when I told her I wanted to get a C6, she jumped on Auto Trader and found the LeMans Blue 05 that I eventually bought and she was the one that urged me to make the hour long drive up to the used car dealer that it was at. Because that one was a manual, at that time I made her a promise that the next one would be auto so she could drive it again (she drove the C5 all the time as it was auto) As soon as the C7 was introduced she knew I wanted one badly and I had told her that as soon as the used prices on 2014s dropped past a certain point that we would start looking. But they held their value so well up here, so then I started thinking that new would be the better choice. When I approached her with the idea of ordering a new 2018, she was excited at the thought of being able to drive a Corvette again so she was totally on board. She did want a say in how it was optioned out though, she definitely wanted Torch Red (which was my first choice anyhow) and when I initially configured the order it was going to have the base silver wheels and gray calipers. She was the one that convinced me how much better it would look with black wheels and red calipers. She was so right! I love the fact that we approached this purchase together and even though I will drive it 95% of the time I still refer to it as "our Corvette" because it's definitely something we are going to both by enjoying for many years to come. She's very excited about all the road trips we're going to be taking with it in the future! My wife is the best

I don't know...If she's your girlfriend I think that's the "I'm going to look so hot in your new Vette my girlfriends are going to be so ridiculously jealous look". If she's your wife that could mean "Honey,your not getting any action for a while...Okay 5 min. are up!"

I just bought a new Stingray in December. My wife knew I had been looking for quite a while, but when they had the GM employee discount, I got real serious. When she asked me how much it cost, and I told her, she told me to just go buy it. What is crazy is she has yet to drive it!! I guess that is a blessing because after she does drive it, I may never get it back.

My (2nd) wife has a similar philosophy in that you only live once and you can’t take the money with you. We also try to spend and save responsibly, but if we can afford something neither of us try to hold the other back.

I married my first wife young, she controlled all my finances even though I was the only one working. If I wanted a new car it was a process of several weeks to wear her down and then I knew it was something she didn’t want. I got to the point of “dgaf” which ultimately ushered in the end of that marriage. I was married for 20 years, but honestly if I hadn’t been in the military and been gone all the time, we wouldn’t have lasted as long as we did.
